Posted April 13, 200916 yr My sister gives our budgies fresh veggies everyday.. like carrots and spinach which are their favorites but they don't eat them right away. They wait until night to eat them, and even if my sister gave them the veggies at night they would wait until the morning to eat them, is like they rather eat them not so fresh. Is that weird?
April 13, 200916 yr budgies are odd lol they do what they want most of the time, chop of the veggies and sprinkle seed on them and remove the seed see if that helps them eat their veggies quicker so they are not wilted, keeping veggies out too long and cause bacteria to grow and can cause illness. Also another trick I read is to put new foods where they roost (meaning sleep) therefore when they first wake up they are more apt to nibble because they are still sleepy and don't want to move much (I read this in a bird mag).
April 13, 200916 yr Author Yea I guess they are odd then.. My sister did put seeds on the veggies at first, but now they eat the veggies without the seeds and they really like them just not so fresh.. We always give them the veggies in the afternoon and remove them in the evening, they mostly eat them in the evening but that time we put them at night just to see if they would wait and they did. April 13, 200916 yr They may not like them cold? I have a few birds that will not eat fridge cold veggies and I need to get the veggie to room temp for them. I have another set of birds that will only eat veggies if they are frozen. Really depends on the bird, as Elly said just watch for Bac growth if left out to long
April 13, 200916 yr As soon as I put mine down, i have to get out of the way as they love them and try to get to the veges as soon as possible.
April 13, 200916 yr Mine are the same as daves. If the breeding birds see me coming with veggies they get off the perches and sit on the floor waiting.

Is it possible she is just missing their main feeding time. Birds eat mostly at a certain time of morning and again late afternoon to dusk. If each time she has missed that prime eating time then I could see why the bird then wont eat the vegies when she has put them there. I know with ours, if my husband misses his parrots perfect eating time and put things in their for them later, then they wont touch it till morning. If he misses that time too then it stays there till their next main eating time. Between those times they graze on their seed but it is not a main feeding time like the early morning and evening feeding times. Edited April 14, 200916 yr by KAZ

Okay, so I should tell her to try and give them their veggies at correct time.. so is it gonna be like guess and check to see what's the exact time they like their veggies? because that sounds crazy lol they have their seeds and pellets all the time and they usually eat in the morning and in the evening I figure it should be the same with their veggies? <-- to give them to them in the morning and evening or when they seem like in feeding time?
