Breeding Pairs 2009

I am looking at what pairs I am going to put down to breed. All up, I have space for 14 pairs, so here is what I am thinking.

Pair One

Caesar – a sky blue Cec Gearing bred cock with Latte - a grey opaline hen

Pair Two

A Green Opaline/Lutino Cock (Hans Sibum bred) with a Lutino – purchased from Cec Gearing

Pair Three

A Grey/Clearwing -Nubbly5 bred with a Green Clearwing -Nubbly5 bred

Pair Four

Old Man – a Grey Green Cinnamon wing (used for breeding by Hans Sibum) with Sunshine - Lutino (never bred before). The Old Man probably has probably only 1 breeding season left in him. He is a good father I am told and I think he might be a good intro to breeding for Sunshine.

Pair Five

Bruticus - a Cec Gearing bred Grey Normal with Kiwi - an Abi Hauder bred Cinnamon wing Grey Clearflight Pied

Now, I will take some better pics when I am catching them up, but at this stage, I would like some feedback or thoughts from the more experienced breeders. Any pairings I have majorly wrong? Please let me know why they are wrong please and suggestions are most welcome.

Looks great. Boy are you going to be busy :P

The only one I am not sure about is the hen you chose for Old Man. I think he needs more substantial hen, but it may just be the photo of the hen you have chosen isnt showing her off to her best.

I would put Caesar to a longer hen.... the hen you've chosen is okay but doesn't add anything. I think he deserves better. :P

I love Dumb & Dumber so much!!

You have beautiful pairs, hope you have great success with the breeding.

Nice pairs Dave I especially like pair 1, 4, 7 and 9 and 10.

Good luck.

Nice pairs... Good luck with them and I look forward to seeing the results!

Well, the breeding cages are all set up, and the first 7 pairs will be going down tomorrow. So who will be in there? Well, it depends on a few things, but the first thing I will look at is who is moulting. I will not put a bird down that is currently stressed, so a few have been ruled out for the time being. It will also depend on hens and cocks and their stage of their cycle.

Pair 1 might still happen - Caesar and Latte - dependant on Latte

Pair 2 should be fine

Pair 3 is good to go

Pair 4 has changed - the Old Man is now paired to a different Lute, but they are both good to go

Pair 5 is good to go

Pairs 6 to 8 are out I think due to moulting

Pairs 9 and 10 - one is good to go, I will have to check - i think one, maybe none

Pairs 11 and 12 are good to go

Pair 13 is out due to moulting

Pair 14 are too young

Pairs 15 and 16 I have to check on.

We will see what happens.

Very exciting Dave, especially as I personally know some of your birds from W.A. :hooray:

PS Dumb and Dumber's dumbanddumber.jpg

sister has babies

Edited by KAZ

I will let them know they are uncles - :)

What did you pair her to Kaz? Do you have a picture of her with her other half?

What are you hoping to get from her and her partner?

There will be no surprises I dont think...she is with a skyblue normal :) She is also fostering babies from the spangle to spangle pairing.

Edited by KAZ

At least you are getting more blue in your aviary Kaz

Thats the plan...but the green content of the aviary far outweighs the blue :)

So the best layed plans often go astray.

My pairs have changed a bit, due to readiness of birds and general judgements on well being.

Four pairs down at the moment.

Pair 1 - Caesar and an opaline, cobalt blue spangle

P1010001-3.jpg

P1010040.jpg

They have their first egg.

Fantastic, Dumb & Dumber never cease to amaze me, such dazzling and beautifully textured bird's. and the rest of the pair's look great, You definitely got your fair share of pairs haven't you

In the 3rd picture, that cock-bird looks preety much the same as my Other cock-bird who is with my opaline(avatar) they both have baby's and one is lutino :)
