Over Amorous Budgie

"Eagle" has decided to use my thumb as a blow up doll.[for want of a better description] He wiggles against my first thumb joint while hanging on TIGHTLY with his claws and wrapping his wings around my thumb. He bites into my thumb nail often at the same time. I find this behavior mildly upsetting, i would be very embarrassed should someone witness these proceedings. Is there ANYTHING i can do besides paint a face on my thumb nail and think of England?

You could get him a girlfriend or just stop him from mating with your thumb whenever he tries to, thats what a female budgie would do if she didn't want that kind of attention

By the way, I agree with Linda_S, he would appreciate a budgie-friend.

My old budgie Cruddy used to do that to hands and feet. He'd go for it if you had no shoes on, and when he finished he'd leave a wet spot. So gross :D. We tried to stop him but he persisted so my mum just let him get it over with :P.

In all seriousness, you don't have to get him a friend just so he can mate that would not be a good reason to get another budgie and certainly not a good reason to have eggs. :D

What you can do is decrease his daylight hours for a couple weeks by keeping his cover on for 12-14 hours. You can also rearrange his toys around, have him use his brain and forage for food (we have 2 wonderful links on that) and then if you don't like it don't offer your finger.

My theory is that your nail is similar to a budgie beak and that is why they do flirt, my Merlin does it too but I don't let it get out of control. You can play with him with different toys to keep his mind redirected from doing these types of things.
