Posted April 10, 200916 yr 10th April 2009. I was woken up this morning by cheeping and peeked in and there was a tiny jelly bean chick. I thought it was cute because whne Lumina stepped off to see the baby was moving it's wings so to speak like he/she was saying "Wear's my blanket gone?" Yesterday I was checking looking for a chick..... just to find out I was a day to early *slaps self in the head* Edited April 12, 200916 yr by KAZ
April 10, 200916 yr Author I'm weirded out......a second egg has just hatched its 9:30pm and the other hatched the same day in the morning about the same time, whats up with that she sat from day 1 on the first egg never came off it....
April 10, 200916 yr Congratulations on youe 1st jelly bean what happens is when the hen lays her eggs she lays them every second day as you know and then she will normally start sitting on the eggs after the second egg has been laid so that means 2 babies hatch on the same day BUT sometimes she will sit after laying the 1st egg. I hope this helps :gday:

Can budgie's smother chicks? Happened to me 3 times this season. Always with the last chick. Its avoidable if you can swap out bigger chicks to foster nests and keep the numbers down. The oldest chicks are huge by the time babies 5,6 and onwards hatch. Another thing that might help is putting 1-3 fake eggs in the nest for the small chicks to hide between or rest on. I'm definately going to be more careful around the time the lasts chicks hatch next breeding season.
April 24, 200916 yr Author Congrats on the little family, are they showing colour yet? yes there are normal greens with spots on the back of there heads, a couple of cinnamons I'm hoping for some Opalines
