Posted April 8, 200916 yr Last night while trying to bond with my new budgie Dinozzo, he flew out of the cage and landed directly in front of my little dog basil. Thinking that DiNozzo was a new toy, Basil grab him and took off with him. After chasing him around the garden a few times we finally managed to get Basil to drop him, but I knew the damage was done. I rushed inside and called the vet who told me that she was closing up I begged her to say open and after explaining what happened she agreed to wait for me. I rushed down there and the vet told me there was nothing she could do and I had to have him put down. I am very very sorry to Libby who hand raised DiNozzo. I feel so useless and stupid at the moment, having the cage door open while the dog is in the house is something that will never happen again. It was a lesson learned the very hard way. Glen

April 8, 200916 yr I am sorry to hear this Glen Hard lesson to learn for you, and in such a short time we invest so much love into these creatures that its like losing a family member.
April 8, 200916 yr Oh that's horrible for you. Sorry to hear your story and I hope another lovely birdie comes your way in Dinozzo's memory.
April 8, 200916 yr So sorry for your loss. I lost two birds to our cats. I know the feeling of kicking myself; it is so easy to make mistakes. I really feel for you.
April 8, 200916 yr Author Thank you all for your kind words and support. It is what I love about this forum/ community. I know I only had DiNozzo for a couple of days but he was really friendly and oh so cute with his yellowface. Libby did such a great job raising him for me. However could off's and should have's are in the past and I have learnt my lesson. I still have my Angel and Ziva to look after and once Ziva has finished her quarantine and is in with Angel, I will go looking for a couple of boys for them. (Hopefully Libby will let me have a look at her pieds that she has on the way). So onwards and upwards is what I will do! Thanks Again Glen.
April 8, 200916 yr Aww Glen, accidents happen mate, stop kicking yourself... Like i told you in PM I've had a fair few freak accidents, including dropping an egg with a chick I was hatching out, the chick was alive but before i could get the egg, my Pomeranian woofed the whole thing down Some things just aren't fore-seeable Of course you're welcome to look at the pieds, i don't blame you in anyway for Dinozzo's death (loved the name By The Way, someones an NCIS fan ) big hugs mate xx
April 8, 200916 yr Oh I'm sorry that is very very sad. Ones lost early in life seem a lot harder in some ways (although losing old friends is harder too in different ways).... but it does happen to all of us. Sorry for your loss
