Can anyone please tell me if Lovage is safe to feed to Budgies. Thanks :budgiedance:

Lovage, is rare in the US from my googling because I have never seen it before.

This is what it is...

Lovage is a herb of the carrot family, related to celery. The celery-like leaves, stalks and seeds all have a strong celery flavor, and the seeds are commonly called celery seeds. The leaves and stalks may be used in salads and stews, and young stems can be candied like those of Angelica. Oil obtained from the roots is used in liqueurs and perfumes.

I am going to say it is "probably safe" but because it is part of the celery family and celery is not recommended because it can cause runny poos and doesn't have high food value I personally would not feed it.

When it doubt though and you can't find an answer on google or at a reputable budgie site, don't feed.

Thanks for your help

goes and does a search for lovage on wikipedia...
Sorry but I find Wikipedia isn't always accurate...thanks anyway.
i give my birds celery and thay love it no runny poos in my cages

How often Shannon??? Celery is VERY high in water, and should only be feed in small amount's/not often. It is like some lettuce... full of water and very little nutrients... kind of pointless to feed, in my opinion. I prefer Bok Choy and alike... better for my birds.

Lovage... you learn something new every day. I've never heard of it. I also agree with Elly, if in doubt... DON'T

I agree with this. I never feed lettuce or celery to my birds, their is no point. The nutrition in them is so low your better off giving them silverbeet or bok choi or carrots. Or even corn..
