Posted April 2, 200916 yr Django has had this hole on his left wing for about three weeks, it started almost unnoticeable. Should I be worried? He preens normally, not excessively. He's been moulting small tufts of down since he came home with us, about five weeks ago.
April 2, 200916 yr Check it closely.....look at the feather shaft and follicle....sometimes indicates a feather cysts forming ( like an ingrown hair in people ). Could also indicate he was feather plucked in the nestbox, if his wings and back have slight down showing rather than a sleek layer of outer feathers. Edited April 2, 200916 yr by KAZ

What happens to the feather shaft and follicle when cysts form? Currently that patch is a bit bare, no bumps on the skin. Here's another closeup, taken on 25 Feb this year. His tail feather had dropped just about then.
April 2, 200916 yr Sootie, I think it shows he was feather plucked in the nestbox. They may never fully grow right in that particular spot. Often a couple feather follicles are damaged when plucked as a baby.
