Posted March 30, 200916 yr Hello everyone, I'm new here. My name is Teegz, & these are my two new budgies. The green one is actually a gift... I think it's a MALE. The white one is mine.. I think it's a FEMALE. I also think she's sick Can someone help me out? She has diarrhea around her feathers on her bum & her eye is weird as you can see. I'm not sure what would have made her this way. I hope she doesn't die. She seems lively & is eating & drinking. Maybe she's stressed? I just don't understand why her eye went like this. I picked her up yesterday, they all looked healthy. :bump: see her eye.. This is them both Hope someone can help. I'm worried. Teegz Edited March 30, 200916 yr by Teegzy
March 30, 200916 yr Teegzy, the new budgie should never be put straight in with the budgie you have already as they can carry hidden illnesses and make the one you have sick. The wet eyes and poopy bottom together can be a sign of psittacosis which can be a very nasty disease and can kill. I am not saying yours has it but the new budgie could be a carrier and has given an illness to your budgie you have already. Quarantine of at least 30 days seperately in another cage and another room ....away from any other birds is the safest way to bring a new bird home. It protects the ones you have. I think this time you will have to take them both to the vets now it is showing symptoms like this. If you bought them both at the same time then they still need to see the vet. The wet eyes in conjunction with the poopy bottom is a first sign of psittacosis. Edited March 30, 200916 yr by KAZ
March 30, 200916 yr I agree with Kaz. It Looks like it could be something very serious. If its what it looks like, you could catch it too if you are not careful. VET tomorrow morning!!!!!!
March 30, 200916 yr Author Hello everyone, I bought the two babies together on sunday. They were both in the same cage with many other babies. I think maybe she's only gotten it since I brang her home. Although Im thinking maybe it's the cage I was forced to bring her home in. IT possibly could have needed a better clean the the half hearted job my cousin did. Today I bought new cages for them both. One each & I will be checking on her tomorrow. I hope she improves soon. I was thinking maybe someone here has had the same problem with their budgies? I would be devastated if anything happened to her Thanks for your help everyone!
March 30, 200916 yr Teegzy I think the bird has contracted a disease from where you bought it and she is showing symptoms now she is at your place. I dont think its because she is at your place or because of your cage or because of anything you have done. She is showing the symptoms of psittacosis and it is dangerous and contagious. I think you should take back both birds and you should buy birds from another place. BUT your cage will definitely have to be well disinfected before another bird goes in there. If you are in any kind of doubt or the eye isssue and poopy bottom could have been caused in any other way, then perhaps just set your mind at ease by getting the vet to check them over ? March 31, 200916 yr I agree- you really need to get them to a vet asap. You obviously care about your birds and don't want them to die or be sick-- but also you need to realise that HUMANS can get psittacosis, and it's totally nasty No matter how much it costs to go to the vet, it will probably be less than the value of losing two budgie lives, plus yourself being sick for a really long time and having to spend money on your own medical expenses too. Totally not worth it to delay a vet visit. By the way I think they both look female, and they're beautiful best of luck with it and I really hope it's not anything serious.
March 31, 200916 yr By the way I think they both look female, and they're beautiful Me too. I think they are both girls.
