2nd Time Breeding

This will be my second time breeding this pair last year in October they produced a beautifull clutch of four gourgess baby's. That was their first breeding attempt, pretty good concidering I thought none would hatch.

Now just this morning I candled the four of Lumina's eggs and two were fertile!! and two were not but one is still too young. I've been feeding egg food to them but it's the only thing Lumina seems to eat, why? and is it better for her than seed?

Also she hates George going in the nest box. Is that normal? She was the same last time untill the chicks hatched.

I thought picture's would be nice

I'm hoping for Opaline's because I love opaline's(George is split to opaline)

Three out of five eggs fertile two eggs are still too young to tell and I'm begining to think they'll all be fertile. Will she be able to cope with five or more chicks at one time? I know a few or all might not hatch but I'm just wodering.

Congratulations... it's normal for the hen not to want the cock in the nestbox, she can handle a number of eggs... my last clutch was five, but many members have had more. Keep up her egg mix but also still over her regular diet... you may find she is eating it more as it contains the nutrients she needs right now... no dramas there... Good luck and keep us updated.

last time she had 7 eggs and four hatched, I'm worried she'll lay the same and they'll all be fertile and she'll have to much to cope with.

she will be able to cope my hen laid 8 eggs and at one stage it looked like they all would hatch but luckily i could foster a cuple of eggs to another hen i had that was sitting at the same time ( mum raised 6 of them)

do you have another hen thats laid eggs around the same time?

I hope it all goes well with her second clutch and you get some opalines.I love opalines too.

4 eggs fertile out of 5 the 5th is still to young for another to days and she's about to lay another tonight or tomorrow. But won't the older babies be fledged when the younger ones are born?
