March 28, 200916 yr Author Oh, okay. Thanks for that. Still no new egg. Lady has quietened a little bit and is sitting at the entrance to the nesting box.
March 29, 200916 yr Author ....still no egg. She is not unwell. Her droppings became huge this morning (or was that last night? I'm losing track). I wonder how much longer this is going to take? The suspension is killing me!

The suspension is killing me! If she is well, she will be fine.....keep up the calcium intake.....and watch her. Is she going in the nestbox ?
March 30, 200916 yr Author Yes, she constantly goes in and out of the nest box. More often than not, she is in there, but she always has done that (speaking from 3 weeks experience of owing her, that is), even well before that first egg. She is still well. Still no egg. Makes me wonder just how prematurely the first egg was taken....

March 30, 200916 yr Author So you think she is waiting to feel more secure before laying then....? How can I provide that for her? I have left the cage half covered with a towel yesterday and today, during the daytime. Aside from changing the water & seed this morning, and providing some grass seeds, I haven't been near the cage. Is there something I can do, or a better place for the cage where she might feel more secure?

I just mean the first egg situation has interrupted her every two days egg laying cycle. She seems fine, so I wouldnt worry at this point.
April 2, 200916 yr That's fantastic news!! It's hard I know but sometimes we need to just sit back and be patient. Congratulations :budgiedance: I'm looking forward to updates!
April 3, 200916 yr I am very happy for you that lady has laid her egg. The hardest bit now is the part you need to perform - get out of the way - :budgiedance: I remember the first time my birds laid eggs, and it is so hard to step back. Constant checking is more harmful than beneficial though.
April 3, 200916 yr Yes so true, you will kill them with kindness,I cant remeber,if you mentioned the size of the cage & nest box, that might have a bit to do with your problems,to close to human contacts,ie Children.
April 3, 200916 yr Congrats on the new egg. I agree to be careful with how much checking you do. Its best to try and keep it to as little as morning a night. Birds are very sensitive to your stress. If she breaks this one. I would take out the box and just let her be. Seeing as they were a breeding pair before you purchased them, you have no idea how much she has bred in the last year. she may be over her recommended 2 clutches already. She may be in need of a rest.
April 6, 200916 yr Author I have only been checking them once a day aside from changing their seed & water. This morning, Lady's vent is looking VERY swollen, and deep red in colour. She had enormous droppings yesterday & the day before and also, today. She laid that last egg on April 2nd. Today is the 7th. She is perhaps just a little fluffed up, but as she is a bit flighty by nature, she always perks up when I approach the cage, so I can't be sure. What to do?
