Posted March 23, 200916 yr Billy has lost his one flight feather when he tried to fly off the table, it fell out and when i picked it up it had blood on the end of it can this indicate something bad or is it just from the fall.
March 23, 200916 yr Its just a blood feather which is a new feather that is still growing. If the feather has come out completely then the wing should not bleed. If there is any blood from the wing then there may be a portion of the quill remaining in the follicle and will need removing. Birds can bleed to death from a blood feather as while the feather is growing, it has an artery connected directly to it. Edited March 23, 200916 yr by **Liv**
March 23, 200916 yr Liv is right. If there is a portion of the feather still in, it needs to be removed. Here is a topic on how to remove a blood feather http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...blood%20feather
March 23, 200916 yr Author no the whole feather fell out im just wondering if its a bad sign of anything seem at though he cant fly yet
March 23, 200916 yr This is your baby If it was the long feather that fell out then it could be due to french moult or the feather was weakened because its all on its own. Do you have a photo of the feather that fell out ?? Also on the tail. it looks like the primary feathers are broken... are they?? If they are, look closly and do you see lines running across the width of the feather??? If so then they are caused by lice. Lice eat the feathers and weaken the shaft of the feather causing them to bend and break. it may be another cause of the feather issues. Lice are easily treated with sprey.
