Posted March 22, 200916 yr My brother built me a nest box in his art class.. He really wants me to use it.. The materials used are okay I think.. its made of clay and it has two holes, one on the side and one on top. It can also be hanged on the outside of the cage and its pretty big too and strong. I though of covering the top hole and connect the other one with the cage and then I could uncover the top hole to check on the chicks? I don't know.. If I could use it at least once to make my brother happy.. would that be okay? I won't start breeding until next year when my budgies are the correct age but it seems that everyone is getting prepared already lol
March 23, 200916 yr do you have a picture? sounds interesting... my concern would be that the clay on the inside could get a bit cold, you would need to find some materials to help keep it warm enough... Other than that I'm not really sure.. what are the dimensions? Edited March 23, 200916 yr by JimmyBanks
March 23, 200916 yr I don't know about this 1, my birds like to be able to chew at their nest box in preparation for nesting. If it was me I probably wouldnit use it
March 23, 200916 yr Author Sorry I don't have a picture but the dimensions are: 6" X 6.5" X 4" ..too small? the holes are big.. I can fit my hand through them. One is 8cm in diameter and the other one is 6cm. It is rectangular in shape. and about it getting cold.. the breeding cage will be indoors, and I could put some kind of bedding in it?
March 23, 200916 yr I dont think it would be practical. Access for checking chicks and cleaning it out isnt good enough, and it sounds too small for a pair of budgie parents in there and up to 5-6 chicks.
March 23, 200916 yr Author 5-6 chicks.. yea its way too small and it would deffinitely be hard to clean.. oh well thanks for the great advice ..any ideas of what I could use it for that is related to birds? My brother made it especially for them.

January 5, 201114 yr A guy I work with said that he used to use those when he lived in India. I don't think he had budgies but he did know of people that used them to breed budgies... not sure how successful they were though...

Some we have seen in use arent quite like that and the room inside is more limited which would be hard if the Mum and dad have 5-6 chicks and not enough space.
