eggs hatching

Hi everyone, I'm new - to this site and to raising budgies. I have 2 who recently laid their second clutch. The first clutch the hen laid from the top perch and let the eggs fall- I don't think she was ready to be a mom. Anyway, this time she had laid a total of 8 eggs- 2 on the bottom (so there gone) 2 were not fertile, 1 she dented (I think on accident, that was sad because it was fertile) and she has 3 fertile eggs left. When I got up this morning one was hatched, much to my surprise I was planning on another week. When should I expect the next egg to hatch, to they hatch in regular intervals the way they are laid?

One more question- she did not use any nesting material in her "nest", nor did she use an actual nest box, its more like a bird bed, but when I tried to put the eggs in a nest box she wouldnot sit on them. Once I put them back in her idea of a "nest" she sat right on them. Is no nesting material okay? and should I be overly concerned with the type pf nest she has chosen?

Thank you sorry if this is long winded. But I am sooo excited.

No she doesnt need nesting materials, and even if she takes care of them if she lays them on the bottom of the cage in a corner ,just leave them & they will survive. Also the answer to your other question is the eggs will normaly hatch 18 days after being laid, she will lay an egg every other day and they will hatch every other day. Good Luck, Harry.o0. :)

WOW how exciting. Obviously her nest is fine because her eggs are hatching. :D :wine . please send us pictures if you can. Welcome to the forums by the way. What colours are the parent birds?

thank you for your replies- the female is blue & white w/ normal wings (I think that's what its called) & the male is green & yellow also normal wings. I'm assuming from what I've read that they'll have mostly green & yellow babies. Both birds are rescues, the male from a teen who could not take care of him after buying him at a petstore & the female was found free flying in the stairwell of an apartment building. The male is about 1.5 yrs old, the female is unknown (she was not banded) I would guess about 3 -5yrs old.

That's a relief to learn I don't have to worry about the nest, I figured that if she came this far someone was doing something right (probably her versus me :wine )

they sound lovely budgies. I bet they are glad to come to you.

hope you can send pictures soon.

ohhhh congrats on the babies!!!you HAVE to post some pics! i love looking at baby budgie's pics! :)

So what's she in? Is she just on the floor cause wouldn't the babies get cold? :P

Congratuaitons, I hope all continues well for you. In the wild budgie will nest in more open spaces then the nest boxes we provide.

Your right with the colours green always shows over blue, but since you don't know the background of either of your birds, you may get a surpirse if one or both have hidden genes :P
