i want to buy a small garden shed just breeding cages in it, no flights or anything like that. if i just have a garden shed will his gettoo hot or anything without insulation. how can i overcome this without insulation. oris it alright

Obviously you will need to shade it from the sun, either by putting under a tree or by having shadecloth erected over the top of it. Depending on temperatures in your area you will not be able to breed all year round in a normal garden shed with no insulation or methods to warm in wiunter or keep cool in summer.

thansks for that. how much is insulation? on a small garden shed how much am i looking at? also what about an old aviary with tin around the sides and mesh on the front with breeding cages inside?

because at the momnet they ae undr the carport and i want ot move them.

A garden shed converted is a good idea, but also aviaries second hand are often well priced for your budget. Its a choice you have to make depending on finances and what space you have in your yard. Go wander around a hardware store and check out ideas for insulation. Even with insulation it does not make it easy to breed through hot weather and the colder weather too,.

Breeding cages inside a flight aviary will not allow birds to focus on breeding if free birds are flying around and all over their cages.

I have Styrofoam line parts of my breeding room and it works like a dream. You can buy sheets of 1200ml wide and 1800mm long I think it is from your hardware store. You are ment to have about 100mm from the surface to are covering. It is silver one side and green on the other the green side faces where the heat is coming from. you can you this on walls and roof. It's not cheap I payed $30.00 a sheet here.

If no birds flying around in the aviary and you used it for a breeding room, it would be fine.

Are there any other alternatives, good ideas are appreciated

Garden shed or aviary....these things come up on the local newspaper secondhand quite cheap, so start looking. The important thing with a breeding room is to keep is rodent and weather proof.....nothing you get will be ready to go and most things will need some modifications to make it exactly right for you and your birds.

My breeding aviary is a garden shed transformed to an aviary by me. It is 4 m by 3 m. 3 of the sides are fully tin, one with a small window. One side has tin going up to about 2 foot high and then the rest is wire. The door is also a steel frame with wire. I have insulation bats on the roof of the aviary, and have polystyrene directly under the roof. I have a shadecloth covering the entire aviary which is about 2 feet above the aviary roof. The aviary gets the morning sunlight and the breeze. I have a whirley bird on the roof also. Honestly my aviary is very well insulated and never gets to hot in summer, I've bred over summer and not had any heat problems.

Is heat an issue in Brissie?

Some days it gets pretty hot, this season it wasnt so bad. On the really hot days I spray some water over the roof and it cools it down. But yeah Its not too bad. The main thing I worry about is airflow.

I agree with dave, Daz that aviary is magnificent. Nice and clean with a nice extension on the outside. Very nice.

How would you do it now Daz? I love that set up, but I'm not sure if my council will allow it... it was 4 x 3 yeah? I love it thought... Love how you've got a water tank connected to it too..

Do you get any trouble having the shed that close to the fence daz?
