March 28, 200916 yr looking good Dave! Agreed Pearce, that cobalt cock is my favourite too, he's gorgeous!!
March 28, 200916 yr Author It is funny how we chooe favourites. Some people choose a favourite on how they look, the biggest, the brightest, etc. Me, I am all about personality - due probably to my own supermopdel appearance - I will take Scruffy anyday over the others. Do nto get me wrong, the others are great, but she has the X-factor that stands her apart from others.
April 6, 200916 yr Author It has been quite a few days since I update this thread. All birds are going well. I gave thema cob of corn today, and they devoured it. I have never seen corn get eaten so fast. Amazing. We are at Day 17 or quarantine, and they are going great. Edited April 6, 200916 yr by Dave_McMinn

April 6, 200916 yr how much do u sell your clearwings for nubbly5? Edited April 6, 200916 yr by Dave_McMinn spelling
April 6, 200916 yr Author I bought these 5 for a total of $150. Nubbly5 was selling some for $30 each and posted on here in February. I had previously purchased 2 Clearwings and 1 Grey normal split clearwing in January when i met Nubbly5 in Perth.
April 6, 200916 yr Author to get good clearwings, it is important to get not only clearwings, but also normals that are split clearwings
April 6, 200916 yr Yes, we have the normals to go with them but no clearwings. There are 3 breeders in Mackay with them. I have 5 and now have 3 new babies Another man has abot 150 of them but does not sell them or show them Another man has one pair, and that is it. Edited April 6, 200916 yr by Dave_McMinn

April 7, 200916 yr I've seen a few clearwings in the pet stores here, so someone must be breeding them in Rocky/Gladstone.
April 18, 200916 yr Author Well, I bit the bullet today and added the clearwings to the aviary. They are all going great and I wanted to do it on a day, or days, when I am around. All is going well. Scruffy is very curious and is interested in meeting everyone it seems. I now have 8 clearwings in the aviary, and 1 normal split clearwing. Amazing actually. One ofmy clearwings has taken a liking to a good green opaline male. Interesting. Not sure I want opaline split clearwings though. Dave

April 18, 200916 yr Shannon it's not that it is bad for them so to speak. it is a show perspective. Opaline Clearwings cannot be shown in the Clearwing class. The pairing of an Opaline Cock with a Clearwing hen can be worthwhile depending on how you look at it. This could start a nice line of Clearwings of that can be used for production of "Rainbows". The qualities of the Opaline can infused into the Clearwings through the production of hens which will be normal. All cocks will of course be split for Opaline and it is these birds that a decision is to be made on their future. After all sometimes what your breeding are stock birds, not always show birds.
April 18, 200916 yr Author I am not going to pair them up, just noticing the different pairs they choose for themselves. As for you being told you cannot do it, you can pair anything up you like Shannon. Judges can only commnet on your birds if you put them in a show. The rest is up to you.
April 18, 200916 yr With the breeding of clearwings.forthe show bench,it is best to be breeding, clearwing to split clearwing,to keep the size, there is a lot of other things come into it when breeding clearwings,it would be a good idea if you are serious about breeding clear wings,is to get a good book on there breeding, they are a hard breed to improve, not a breed for a beginner,if you want to show them,One step foward, two steps back.I have tryed, but they finish up at the bird dealer, for $6 I have a cock I will this season will try over 2 split hens.
April 18, 200916 yr The reason for not pairing to opaline is exactly as RIP says, if you intend to show them, then Opaline CW is not an acceptable combination so if recognised as such by a judge will be DQ'ed or stuck into an Non standard variety class if the club has one and the judge/show manager allows a class change. Ooops sorry, I lied!!!! They can be shown as opaline AOSV as the combination of opaline CW is acceptable BUT you would be penalised for lack of opaline markings and you would be competitng against generally much stronger birds. It's best to keep opaline and cinnamon out of your CW line if you can at all help it - IF you want to show them. If not pair them with absolutely anything you like!!!!!!
