Posted March 17, 200916 yr Charlie my resuce Quaker is now 7 weeks old and is learning to fly. We have learnt not to land on the BACK of the book shelf as that means we slide all the way down the back and get stuck and mum has to come and resuce us which is an hour long process (gap is now blocked off) We have also learnt that you do not attempt to land on the pictures hanging on the wall as that means that both you and the picture come crashing down to earth. We are learning however to recall! okay so it's a bit shakey at the moment and normally means he launches himself off his cage flys around the room and they attempts to land on me normally aiming for the face hoping against hope that mum will catch him BEFORE we crash (we have crashed once when I misjudged his speed!). But still I have never had a bird recall on demand before and it's great!
March 17, 200916 yr Author Yeah i know I need photos. I have two cameras sitting on my desk bt neither work. Charlie is a green Quaker parrot, otherwise known as a monk parrot
March 28, 200916 yr I'd never heard of a Quaker parrot until I read this post the other day, then just today I read - on a forum that has absolutely nothing to do with birds - about a Quaker parrot who saved a child from choking by alerting its owner. What a nice coincidence!
