Louie Is Sick!?

I got Louie exactly 11 days ago and since then I noticed his droppings were runny..well actually very watery and green, light green and sometimes dark green. I kept changing the newspaper everyday to see if there was any changes and they were.. Not as watery but still runny. His vent is always clean.. I've been cheking that too. He acts very normal though, playful, chirping..eating and drinking water normally.. He eats oats with crushed egg shells and bread plus his seed mix and millet. At first I tought it was because of the stress of being brought to new surroundings.. but it has been long since I brought him home..

I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow but I still want to see what you guys think.. what could it be?

take him off the egg etc for a few days and see if that makes a difference. I don't think they need egg unless they are feeding young.

A seed diet and veges should be fine for him. like corn peas grated carrot silverbeet leaves, celery but I wouldn't give him anything except plain seed until his dropping become normal.

Good luck

Thank you :)

Last night I took his food out and I gave him only seeds this morning. I've been watching him all day and his droppings seem to have changed already :)

Now they are brown, which is normal right? they are still a little runny but I guess I still have to wait for a few days for they to become fully normal.

I guess the first day I brought him his diarrhea was caused by the stress and then it only continued because he was eating food he wasn't used to? I won't give him anything but seeds for a while and then introduce veggies little by little and see how it goes :)

And thanks for telling me about the egg.. I had no idea they only needed it when feeding young.. but oats are okay right? because all my birds love them..

I am sorry to disagree....egg is fine for budgies and not just for when feeding babies...its protein and especially good for young budgies, any budgies growing in feather and as a part of normal budgies diet. One thing you may not have considered is that the eggshells must be well cooked to get rid of bacteria very prevalent in eggshells, and that can cause problems if the shells have not been cooked properly.

The bread isnt necessary, and depending on what kind of bread may have a whole lot of artificial ingredients not suited to him at this stage.

Brown droppings is not a sign of getting better as brown is not a good colour for budgies droppings. I suggest a visit to the vet.

okay.. so egg is good.. and yes I cook the eggs before giving them the eggshells and I crush them very good then I just sprinkle it on their seeds.. is that good? I don't give them alot of bread, every now and then they get a little bit just as a treat but I guess I'll just give them millet as a treat now..

Thanks for the information KAZ and yes Louie is going to the vet hopefully very soon.
