Hi not sure if its lice, mites or just itchy but all my budgies and cockatiels are scratching alot lately was wondering if I can give them all a dose of mite and lice spray. Does it hurt if thet don't have them, Ive never treated them before.

You need to check the birds closely to see what is "bugging them" .........there are feather mites, which you will see on the feathers. There are red mites which invade aviaries and cages and come out at nite and suck their blood. And there is scaly face mites which rarely show as itchy birds.

Have a real close look first...feather mites are more easily seen on pale coloured birds...whites and yellows. We have articles on these mites in our health section.

Also itchyness comes with moulting.
