Hi I am new to all this I ve ready as much as i can but I still need alittle help just like everyone. Im looking at breeding my first pair, well second the first pair flew away when their cage fell over. My question is Snowy too young or is she becoming ready to breed? The lovely boy in one of the pics is the cock bird I am going to breed with.

Its not about looking at cere colour and seeing if she is in "breeding condition" ...you need to know for sure that she is over 12 months of age and finished growing herself....as they still are producing calcium for their growing bones. Do you know her age ?

Im not really sure we have owned her for about 4 to 5 months and Im not sure on how to tell the age, one thing i do know was she looked alot older then the babies they were selling but of couse that does mean she wasn't still a baby herself. Im sorry i cant be any more help then that.

If unsure, its best to wait until you can be sure she is over 12 months. As pieds dont have barring most often, they always look older than other chicks in the same cage.

Looks like a pied to me, either recessive or dominant. If dominant then it is definitly too young and if recessive it could be old enough as they dont get iris rings. I would wait a year from when you bought her to be sure.

Thank you very much I will leave her be and she who Donny, the cock bird ,likes and see what happens. If they are not ready they arent ready.

If not old enough make sure there is no nestbox anywhere near them.
