1. Yes im a member of a Club. I'm a member and Show manager with Kyabram. Im not sure why that is relavant?

2. Yes I do show, I showed last week at the Adult Shield. I'm also a Judge, i Judged the Geeelong Diploma show a couple of years ago and judged your UBC Selection show last September.

3. Auctions - I havn't been to Geelongs auction for 3 years, but i regularly sell birds at auction (Eastern, Melton, Townsville (QLD) and Wynnum (QLD)) in the past 12 months.

I wasnt questioning the quality of birds on offer. My comments relate to a breeder going to auction with the intent of buying birds that are better than what they have at home. I stated that Splat needs to look for features that her birds require and buy accordingly, because looking to buy a complete bird is a wasted exercise.

Can I add Heathrow that you have had birds in the national's?

Thanks Daz I will SWOT them now. Great advice thanks heaps DazS - Strengths W - WeaknessO - Opertunities T - ThreatsStrengths and Weakness's are obvious but Opertunities are things such as age, breeding condition, relationships to your existing birds. etc.Threats come with time. eg, Non breeder, Scalper, etc. You should also do this with your existing birds. Then cross your strengths against your weakness's. Eg if you have a cock that you have bought with a good brow and a hen in your flight with a good mask then that is a good start. Just make sure you don't cross two weaknesses togeather. Two strengths together is very good. It will help inforce that strength in the birds. The LT green 07 sky 08 pied 08The birds at the auction were 07 and 08 birds no old or uncapped birds allowed so that was good.Daz I did try to pick birds to completment my own,I chose large framed birds with length, strong shoulders, feather, good chest, width of face, long mask wide , steered away from birds with heavy flecking as I don't want that in my stud. All these things I chose were all in different birds not all in one, but I thought if I can get a couple with the features I was looking at it would be worth it.Any way still learning. :(

Actually Heath I believe the birds I have at home are much better than some I seen there and what I bought home were not as good as mine but it was a good day. :D

Sounds very good splat...

Flecking now that is a good topic...... :(

Flecking - Splat whats wrong with flecking???? I believe you cant afford not to use (correctly) birds with flecking. I'm interested to hear other views!!!!!

My view on flecking is,until the judges stop puting up flecked birds, like they did in England, breeders will keep

showing them. There is a lot of talk about not puting up flected bird, but thats all it is talk.

Iam not in favor of flecked birds being showed, there was a

seminar on flecking,I think it was at the Cairns at the National

& they were going to do a lot of things with a big stick.

But when the Judges wont penilise the flecking, nothing will

happen,They cleaned it up over in England,so it can be done.

Beautiful birds Splat, I'm sure they will go very well with your existing birds!! Looks like you had a productive day. I like all of them. Look forward to pics of your pairings, resulting chicks, etc...
