Posted March 4, 200916 yr Hi. I've been looking at a few bird recipes and I'm wondering if they can be frozen. If I were to mix hard boiled eggs, hulled oats, bok choi and carrots together, could I freeze the left overs? If so, How long would it last in the freezer before going off?
March 4, 200916 yr For things to freeze succesfully they have to have water content and some things dont freeze well and go slimy. The carrots you sperak of would have to be part cooked I believe...the bok choy would get slimy I think. Others may know more....
March 4, 200916 yr Author Kaz, do you ever freeze anything for the birds? Or do you make a mix every day? I usually just make a mix every day but if I am able to freeze 2 or 3 days worth it would be alot easier. Thankyou.

If I get sweetcorn on the cob cheap I blanche and freeze it for the times it is expensive. Although lately I have been getting the loose frozen sweetcorn and thawing that out for the birds. Everything else is fresh daily.
March 4, 200916 yr I freeze silver beet for my birds. I blanch it before freezing, and its soggy when it thaws, but the birds still thing its great (i dont leave it with the birds for more than 2 hours) Careful with freezing eggs. i did this last breeding season and my birds got food poising Keep the egg fresh and freeze the rest, and NEVER leave food more than 2 hours.
