Posted March 3, 200916 yr Hello, My name is Rikki and I just signed up today so I thought I would introduce myself. I have 2 Budgies. Both babies. I will post a few pics. This is Birdy who is probably around 12 weeks or so. I got him/her from a pet shop and they were unsure of how old. I think he is a boy but again I am not sure: This is Sunshine who is probably around 12 weeks also. I again got him/her from a pet shop and they were unsure of how old. I think he is a boy but again I am not sure. I look forward to reading through all the posts.

March 3, 200916 yr This is a hen, and i agree her beak is not quite the right shape, so keep an eye on it as it might grow too long. This hen is under 12 weeks, possibly 8-10 weeks old as i see no sign of breaking her cap yet. - she is very pretty This little cutie is a cock, and he is hard to tell the age as i do not see any bars on his head. If you can get a photo of his eye then we might be able to tell better. Now that i look at the above picture closely, is his upper beak sitting inside his lower beak most of the time?? Both appear to have beak issues which will most likely require lifetime trimming. Edited March 3, 200916 yr by **Liv**
March 3, 200916 yr Author I see why you say Birdy is a she but I think that is just lighting that is making her/him look like a hen as in person there is no white around the nostrils at all. I will try to get a better picture and post in a bit if he/she will hold still long enough. Now for the beak. I know I probably sound really stupid but I just dont know what you mean by as not the right shape. It looks just like the other one in person. She has to be older than 10 weeks as I have had her for almost 9 myself, and I would assume it was older than a week when I purchased. And thank you, she/he is my baby. Sunshine has no iris rings if thats why you wanted the picture of the eyes. I was thinking cock also as his cere is really pinkish. He has bars on his head they are just really really light. They have been from day one.I didn't see the other text below the picture. No his beak does not sit inside. I think that is just the way the picture looks. I think these may be a little bit better pics. They are older but the still look pretty much the same: Edited March 3, 200916 yr by rikki
March 4, 200916 yr Looking at the new photos, i still agree that Birdie is a hen and Sunshine is a cock. Both birds beaks look normal in those shots Edited March 4, 200916 yr by **Liv**
March 4, 200916 yr Author Both birds beaks look normal in those shots . Wow that is a relief. Thank You. Looking at the new photos, i still agree that Birdie is a hen and Sunshine is a cock. Now I am really confused. I hate photos sometimes as it can be hard to tell. I guess in time I will know for sure. It is males that usually do the head bobbing correct? If so, Sunshine does it all the time and I think I have seen Birdy only do it once or twice. Also who is usually more vocal a boy or a girl? Edited March 4, 200916 yr by rikki

Some female budgies head bob and some female budgies also try and mate another bird. This photo shows blue with white on the cere and thats what tells me its a hen
