Posted March 3, 200916 yr Hey guys. I was just wondering, i have just purchased a beautiful little blue budgie recently but he is about 2 years old they told me. Is it possible to teach him to talk? ive read that they have to only be exposed to human talk if they are to learn, that exposign them to other birds means they will never learn the human language???.....can anyone help me out on this one? i would love ot teach him to talk. cheers
March 3, 200916 yr If he is an only bird and a male you have a really good chance of getting him to talk, talk to him all the time there are certain words that they pick up really quick sweet baby hi who is the baby then they start to combine things together ... if you have a female she may talk too but males are more likely age doesn't make a difference if they are the only one they will tend to copy you even if they have been with other birds but if you add another bird into the mix later down the road the chance of him not talking any more is high.
March 8, 200916 yr Hi there, it just takes lots of patience. My inside bird Oliver is now 14 months old and he has just started saying 'naughty boy', as unfortunately that's what I said to him all the time when I greeted him. It wasn't intentional but now I've started teaching him 'pretty boy' and every now and then he says that too. I find he listens really well if I'm sitting next to him and just costantly repeat the words in a sort of high pitched voice. He chatters constantly back to me. Hopefully I can get him to say even more. He seems to know that I think he's clever when he says them. Good luck with your little friend.
March 8, 200916 yr Let them listen to the radio, cd's or even watch tv when you aren't there. Only take care what kind of programs you let them watch, maybe abc, it is a bit more educational.
