March 17, 200916 yr All nest now have 2 eggs plus but one nest I was really counting on the hen I think is distroyng her eggs the next day after laying them. I used her and her partnter last year and she never did that or him so I am not sure what is going on. Thinking about putting them both out in the aviary for a while and wait and try again later. Any one got any thoughts on it. If you have another pr that have eggs that are not fertile, you could put the eggs under that pr.or make a nest concave with a hole in the middle & put that in the nest, about 25mil off the bottem & when she lays the egg will roll, through the hole out of harms way & foster it to one of the other pr,that has only a couple of eggs.
March 17, 200916 yr splat i had a bird just did same thing so i got the egg she had had a go at and filled it with hot sweet chillie sauce placed it back in the nest and then after 2 hours went back out removed the egg cleaned the box from chillie sauce and let them be ....next egg she layed few days as per norm she left alone so it works give it a try if not id foster eggs if able
March 17, 200916 yr Author She is laying the egg and sitting on it then the next day she destroys it, she layed today took it out and put under another hen and put a marble under her. splat i had a bird just did same thing so i got the egg she had had a go at and filled it with hot sweet chillie sauce placed it back in the nest and then after 2 hours went back out removed the egg cleaned the box from chillie sauce and let them be ....next egg she layed few days as per norm she left alone so it works give it a try if not id foster eggs if ableGb she is totally destroying them nothing left to fill.
March 17, 200916 yr mine had not much left it was totally cracked and pulled apart i still filled it and then stuck it in lol mabe try just coating it with crushed pepper by wetting egg a tad then roll in pepper then place back in that also been known to work use a diffrent hens egg if you think she is a valubale bird for your quality factor and place hers under the other hen as you have done that way if she does it again it wont matter so much birds do they really fall for that marbale thing i wouldnt have thought they were stupid enough ?
March 17, 200916 yr Author I would like to see her try and destroy the marble I think she wouild end up with a beak ache GB is she is very important to my breeding, the pair gave me a cracker last year so I am hoping for more
March 17, 200916 yr then take all eggs and foster apropriatly mate as you would do leave her with the hard egg but if i was you i really would put a real one their and persist in getting her out of the habbit as she wont be anygood if she keeps doing it only as an egg farm, tryed a clear door ? mabe if you keep her with a egg thats a few days older i sometimes do that as so they get to raise a chick and are not sitting for nothing anyother birds with eggs less worth put just one with the marble see what she does if she destroys that then mabe someone else can help as i only breed pets not show so no egg is really that special yet..... March 17, 200916 yr Take egg and replace with an artifical egg or a white marble, she will soon learn that they are too hard to break and give up
March 17, 200916 yr Author Thanks Heath and Daz I did that yesterday should I do that with all the eggs as she lays them she probably has 3 eggs left to lay.
March 29, 200916 yr Author Update the grey green pair has 3 fertile eggs under another hen. The grey opaline and sky blue were all clear as I thought would happen The sky blue spangle and grey green spangle the parents of my winning yellow df spangle were all clear to but I will try them again and finally the dark green opaline spangle and grey green cinn opaline nest so far 1 fertile egg which is better than I thought as the cock has a wonky foot. I am about to pair up more in the next couple of days The grey green op spangle the one above with my violet hen
March 29, 200916 yr Ill take this cock. This cock. This cock. Both of these. Nevermind Ill take them all splat. Excellent birds as always.
March 29, 200916 yr Author Pearce don't think so the grey green op spangle is the same bird with different hens, he is my foundation cock and the grey green is my other foundation cock, I bought the grey green from the pet shop for $15.00 but new the breeder rang up and ask for his pedigree and he is almost all G & M Watson blood and the hen I have him with is 100% G&M Watson blood and they gave me a ripper of a baby so far. The grey opaline is 50% Henry George and 50% Ray Wilson but he has a crook hip so I don't think I will get anything out of him. But he is a very nice bird has a lovely head.
