March 2, 200916 yr I'm on the other end of the stick. I have only 3 nest boxes left with chicks. When they fledge the breeding cages will be clean out ready for next season. I'll start thinking about pairs after the nationals at the end of May.
March 2, 200916 yr Author Well today I started preparing the breeding cages for my adult birds.Done 3 so far I will post pics of the pairs once I have decided who is going to be with who. March 3, 200916 yr old birds as in established breeding pairs or just older stock in general ? i had a simular thought about breeding my older birds before its to late to get any good rezults i got a few about a dozzen 3 and 4 year olds i have never breed with that same old waiting for the right bird for them story so i decided just pair what i have the once off and see what i get i relize you would probly have a plan though not like me who only kind of does after all im about colour your about show birds so need to be more selective im guessing
March 3, 200916 yr thats a good plan lol yes i understand getting some generation happening their then .
March 5, 200916 yr Author My first 2 pair down Grey green Opaline spangle cock and sky spangle Grey green cock and Lt green cinnamon opaline hen These 4 birds have bred me some real decent young over the last 2 years Fingers x
March 6, 200916 yr Author Thanks Liv and Renee put down 3 more last night more pics coming, I can't to see their outcome
March 6, 200916 yr Are you sure the cock bird is an Opaline Spangle??? What's your objective in pairing these birds together???
March 7, 200916 yr Author Yes Heath positve any way Ian wrote it on the pedegree and he has been throwing me opaline hens when he is put with normal hens. He also is split cinnamon Why I am puting him with her is that there is a click there and between the 2 they are throwing feather and type this is their son I know he has suffusion. She seem to throw that but I don't mind as I put the yellow DF with a normal hens mainly. The grey green and the gg opaline my objective is they have the same blood line the hen 100% and cock 75% and last year I put them down together and got some really nice young, so I am repeating this year. I am going to run a line off these 2 This is one of his daughters from this pairing dark green cinnamon at about 6 weeks old This year I am planning on breeding mainly on blood lines. March 7, 200916 yr Author When I say bloodline I meant genetics as I have the pedigree to nearly all the birds I have some I no nearly all their backgrounds for at least 4 generations some more. Some I am pairing for looks also meaning complimenting on features.
March 8, 200916 yr any new photos i love the yellow DF spangle wow can i have him ??lol He is my favourite too.
March 8, 200916 yr Author He is my favorite too he is such a gentlemen :bluebudgie: No photos at the moment but soon
March 10, 200916 yr Author Here are a couple more pair I have put down This grey opaline is out of a 100% Henry George bird 50% H George and 50% Ray Wilson, he has a lovely head and plenty of feather The Dark Green Opaline Spangle and grey green opaline cinnamon. The cock bird is Ray Wilson and the hen has half Ray wilson so I am keen to see what comes out of them, hoping for some nice cinnamon opalines.
March 13, 200916 yr Author HAVE EGGS******* two hens layed yesterday, sky blue hen and grey opaline pair and grey green cinnamon opaline and grey green pair. Really happy with that as I put them down of the 5th. Sky spangle should lay any day too we really thought she would of being first to lay. Edited March 13, 200916 yr by splat
March 13, 200916 yr Author I can't to see if they are fertile mainly from the sky nest and grey opaline because I didn't get anything from him last year. The the grey green nest had a couple of really good babies last year one is nearly a cracker so I have my fingers crossed, the second one died at 5 weeks and she was a beauty the 3rd was smal and nice true to the blood line.
March 14, 200916 yr Author MORE EGGS The other 2 pair laid eggs today so the whole 4 are settling in well but I marked the first 2 this morning and when I checked before one of the hens destroyed her egg, so I won't be marking any more for a while, I must of disturbed her. March 17, 200916 yr Author All nest now have 2 eggs plus but one nest I was really counting on the hen I think is distroyng her eggs the next day after laying them. I used her and her partnter last year and she never did that or him so I am not sure what is going on. Thinking about putting them both out in the aviary for a while and wait and try again later. Any one got any thoughts on it.
