Have got my first blue bub in quite some time, was a surprise from 2 greens. Pics dont do justice she is a lovely little hen, bit washed out in the photo

With another youngster

This fella is moulting into quite a handsome boy- although flecked.

This little fella would be one of my longest birds already, cant wait for him to mature I think I will be happy with the end result.

Pulled this hen out to put in the breeding cage, by far the biggest hen I have with a solid long mask (didnt show up) but I checked her ring and info card and she has just turned 5 months oops.

Kaz you will recognise some of these...

This pair is on 8 fertile eggs at the moment, actually 7 and 1 baby, it hatched this arvo

This pair are on 5 eggs I think..or 6..3 are fertile so far (looking forward to seeing the results)

This pair is partially for Jimmy as he got me thinking about dom pied spangles, and part for me as I wanted to see if this cock could produce, his brothers are much better than him but he got all the 'pretty' looks

0209074.jpg

and these 2, only because I'm trying to thin out the greygreens. This hen has produced some very nice chicks so heres hoping

Last but not least I have this randy little bugger a greygreen dom pied, and hoping he can do something with this grumpy thing, Ive yet to get a fertile egg from her, she is not into the men (or any birds) and is too quick to jump into the nest and start laying, this fella is quite happy to hump the perch/wire while eating, chatting her up, sitting by himself, not sure if he has stopped long enough to try it with her though (not a good picture but you get the idea)

well thats it for now, when the chicks start feathering I'll take some more

Not me I think I just have some nice birds to work with, have been lucky this time round and have fertile eggs in each cage (except the last pair, be able to tell soon, but havent got my hopes up much)

Had a couple of visits when I was in Perth a while back and wow the birds have changed since I was last looking down there and I realise I am well behind with some of them, but I am having fun B)

I have a few hens that throw clones of themselves, its cute.

I think I have a few things I should change when pairing up with certain mutations and colours but I'm trying to up quality and will sort/seperate mutations later on.

:(:(

Well yesterday I went outside very early (last 2 days have been freezing here- for summer) and saw my little blue on the ground, she got up and I noticed her leg had been bitten badly/broken. Short of putting her down straight away I thought I would see if she would pull through, as I have another hen that broke hers at the same age and healed up okay. She was very fluffed and had spent the night on the concrete floor.

I didnt have much hope as the cold and shock had affected her alot, along with the injury. She hasnt made it unfortunately, her parents are sitting on more eggs and 2 chicks so heres hoping for another similar. I am quite peeved about it at the moment

Rip little doll

:( I am really sorry Pie.....its always the ones we love the most that things seem to happen to :(

Awww I am so sorry about your blue hen :(

You have some stunning bubs. :(

Might pay to block off the nest box entry hole for the last pair if the hen is a grumpy "anti-male but loves to lay" kinda hen! Secure some cardboard over the hole and give the male a few days to work his magic! Some breeders recommend leaving it their then taking it out when you think they have mated. Others have told me to poke a pen through the cardboard to give her a starting point where she can chew it away and gain entry after a few days. Apparently making her work for it rev's up her breeding instinct! Have never tried it myself however!

Best of luck, keep us updated :)

Cheers all, stock owners are stock losers hey. Always the bloody good ones though :)

Thanks Dean I have been locking her out a fair bit. I thought she had stopped at 3 empty, but has layed another today. I will pull the 3 out and maybe foster the 1 out and keep it shut tomorrow and let her start again. Whether it be her or the fact the cock bird mates the perch while chatting to her instead of getting his leg over lol

I was working today so tomorrow will be "Bird day". I have a cock bird I may out with her if nothing happens this time- a very pushy 'knows what he's doing' cock bird :)

I absolutely love looking at your birds Pie, thanks for the update :)

I love the first picture... this little one looks like a clown... it's feet are so much bigger than its body!!! LOL So cute. The markings on some of the other pied birds and the brightness of the colors are AMAZING!!!! Lovely birds!

if enyone read the reply that i said hee hee i love this one i was talking about a photo and i did not read the last reply so i did not know that your bird died so i was not laughing about the bird i was laughing about the photo.

sorry about your bird pie :) and sorry that i did not read the reply before that.

Oh Nyaree, so sorry about your little blue stunner. :( Yes! It is always the way unfortunately.

Glad to hear your breeding is going well. As for your grumpy hen, sometimes you get one like that I'm afraid. I have 2 from last year that gave me nothing but grief but I am an optimist at heart and will try again with them this year- they better b*****y well get their acts together or it's the chopping block for them B)
