Posted February 28, 200916 yr Ever since moving out and after the loss of our beautiful Sammi (cat) RIP, I have really wanted another cat/kitten. Unfortunately, living in a unit doesn't allow this. I have done some research on different animals, more suitable to keeping in a unit... and came up with Rats. I used to own mice as a child, and the friendly ones are just great. I had one named Lily, who used to fall alseep in my pocket. So today, I went out on the hunt. I ended up at my favourite pet shop and picked up an adorable 8 week old female rat. One of the workers opened up the cage and had her hand in there with them. They were all so friendly and she told me they were hand raised and with a lot of contact with children. They were all so cute, but decided I wanted a female as I couldn't handle looking at it's huge 'balls' :budgiedance: Just not a pretty sight in my mind!!! I'll add some photos later. She's just finished checking out her new cage, and is currently curled up in her little house. Edited March 14, 200916 yr by maesie
February 28, 200916 yr Ohh Maesie! Awesome!!! I love Rats soooo much! I currently have 3. Went to the pet shop last week to choose 2 to put on hold as I was going away that weekend and was picking them up on Tuesday. Chose a Black hooded and an Agouti hooded was told they were both males as that is what I wanted. Ended up when I was in the car on the way home, I discovered 1 was a male and 1 a female, pregnant too! So out I went again later and got another male. Now I have 2 males, and a pregnant female! Noticed you only have 1 rat, it is highly advised to keep 2 as they get very lonely by themselves. They will still bond to you the same though. Here are a couple of Rat websites I really like - www.dapper.com.au and www.firstrats.tripod.com Cant wait to see the photos!! I will get some photos of my brats up soon too. Would love to see your cage! What are you feeding her? My boys names are Bandit(black hooded) and Aladdin(agouti hooded). Havent got a name for my girl (agouti hooded) yet, they seem harder to name!! Do you know what your new girls colour is?? Feel free to PM me if you would like help!

March 1, 200916 yr Congrats, she looks great!! I used to have rats, they have personalities more like dogs than mice! I really wish I could get another but Michele has made it clear there is no chance of that.
March 1, 200916 yr Author Congrats, she looks great!! I used to have rats, they have personalities more like dogs than mice! I really wish I could get another but Michele has made it clear there is no chance of that. Thanks... she's sweet as. I used to have mice as a child/teenager. They smelt a lot more than she does, and apart from one I had, they weren't handled as youngsters and were biters... I'm surprised at how tame she is, and how happy she is about being handled... apart form being pee'd on, I love her to bits!!!
March 1, 200916 yr Author http://www.dapper.com.au/toys.htm I found that today too... some brilliant ideas. Beats spending heaps on bought stuff... and I guess it's like kids too, they're more interested in the wrapping than the toy it's self... *** and I've decided to name her DAISY... it has stuck and I think it really suits her*** Edited March 1, 200916 yr by maesie
