Posted February 25, 200916 yr Hi all, This is probably gonna seem like a stupid question to all you experts, but what would happen if a pet type and a show type budgie were bred? Is it okay or not? Debbie
February 25, 200916 yr It is not a stupid question at all. they can and will breed together. the chicks will be better than the pet type parent and not as good as the show type parent....somewhere in between
February 25, 200916 yr Author Thanks Kaz, What about a Danish pied with a show type? I have been told I can't breed my Danish recessive pied cock with a "dominant recessive pied" hen that I apparantly have. I don't want to be breeding birds that are a genetic blow up waiting to happen
February 25, 200916 yr depends what you are breeding for. if you are breeding for pretty birds, then breed any birds you like together. If you are breeding for specific types then dont breed recessive pied to dominant pied.

If you are breeding for specific types then dont breed recessive pied to dominant pied. Is that because you don't know what you'll get, or are the results bad? (curious and not afraid to look clueless)

I don't want to be breeding birds that are a genetic blow up waiting to happen It isnt usually the done thing to breed dominant pied to recessive, but they are your birds and you can do what you like with regard to choosing their partner. PS there is no such thing as a dominant recessive pied.
February 25, 200916 yr If you breed recessive pied to dominant pied you will get all dominant pieds split recessive pied. To me it does not seem like a bad thing but maybe if you show your birds it could be.
