My 1st Ever Baby!

Hi everyone,

I am so excited, I just had to share.

My hen has laid 10 eggs in 20 days, the 1st being laid on 2nd Feb, when it was really hot.

I wasn't sure if they would hatch but when I checked this afternoon, there was a baby! :D

MY FIRST EVER! :)

As I was peeking I noticed another poking out of its shell!!

2 babies in one day.

Here are the parents, any idea what babies I should be getting?

Gorgeous parents!! I hope the rest of the babies hatch successfully.

You have a grey Yellowface..(type one, I think) and a Sky Blue Dominant Pied girl..So..

50% Yellowfaces

50% Dominant Pieds

50% Normals

(as in, some could be Dominant Pied yellowfaces, normal yellowfaces, normals, and dominant pieds)

And half will be greys..the other half blues..probably Cobalt?

Skyblue dom pied to yf grey (could even be gf???)

Some babies blue some grey.

half babies wil be dom pied

half babies will be normals

50% of the babies will be yellowface

If father is mauve -

All chicks will be blues. Cobalts.

would need a front shot and tail shot of the cock to be sure on colour, he is a type 2 as is wings have yellow on them. he might be a violet as his cheek patches look dark, which makes me thing grey is wrong for his colouring.

the hen is a skyblue dominant pied.

congrats on the bubs :)

Could he be a yellowface mauve? The grey is very dark which I have never seen before.

Now that I look at him again I don't think he is grey...mauve, or Violet mauve, is much more likely.

The cock, Jack, is a strange colour. His cheek patches are the same as Boof, who is a grey green but Jack's body colour is no where near the same. I would call him a green blue, like the sea, if that is possible? His tail is black.

He is yellowface2, could be grey but with two dark factors? Are his cheek patches silver..or purple?

i belive you will get yf colbalt doms

some yf par blues sky and cobalt

and mabe some normal skyblues or cobalts

but i think mainly dom type 2 cobalts or type 2 parblues cobalt

that cock looks to me as if he is only cobalt holding violet so the chicks unless your very lucky wont be violet but possably sky violets may acure

but i think skyblue doms may also be your main bet

he is golden face so it will be half half percentage white face and yellow face thats my guess

they will be beautiful though and worth keeping any hens for yourself

Unfortunately all chicks that hatched died. 5 hatched, 2 eggs were infertile and the remaining 3 fertile eggs were kinda hard boiled. She had laid them when it was stinking hot, not sure if that had something to do with the chicks dieing but they never lived past a week. they were also in the aviary so not sure if another bird attacked them? One thing is for sure - NO MORE COLONY BREEDING FOR ME!
