Normal? If not, HELP!

This is my first ever post on any forum, so please bear with me if I make any mistakes. :P

I have 1 budgie, Bertie, a cute lime green/yellow ball of feathers that does a good impression of a fog horn. :)

Bertie has had a less than trouble free start to life. I got him at 9 weeks old, he is now 5 months. Within 2 weeks it was apparent that he had 'bumble foot', this led to vet visits and cream having to be applied to his feet. The handling of him to apply this was done very carefully but still seemed very upsetting to him. His treatment finished a week ago, a good recovery (fingers crossed).

His behaviour is now of concern to me. He looks across the room, out of the window, and goes 'loopy' at every movement outside. This includes harsh loud tweets (sometimes for hours) and paniced flapping in his cage. He spends alot of time patrolling his perch (he has 4 perchs but seems unwilling to leave the upper back one). This has been going on before/during and after his treatment. He is not finger tame at all, but he is not frightened by my hand in his cage.

He does not seem like a happy budgie to me (although he has his moments). He is well looked after, if not pampered. Could anyone offer any advice or opinion on any of the above.

Thanks. (from me and Bertie)

mmmm i would say that perhaps the bumble foot treatment has really upset him. But perhaps its just his temperament. its hard to tell. My budgie Rocky has mad half hours where he flys aroundd the room squarking at i don'tt know what!!!!

I'd give him time to get over his unpleasant experiences. Try and keep things calm but keep talking to him. You could always take him to the vet just for a check up.

I'm sorry i'm really not much help.

he probably won't move from that perch because it is the highest. budgies feel safest up high so maybe if you make all the perchs around the same hight he would move around a bit more.

You could try partially covering his cage (just the top and sides) to dim the light and possibly relax him. He sounds like he needs some time to get over the shock caused by treatment. It good that he isn't afraid of your hand being in the cage. He probably hangs out on the top back perch because it is high and furthest away from everything. :bluebudgie:
