4 Month Old Hen Laid An Egg Again A Week After I Took Her Brother Out

Hi again I'm am very concerned for her health not that long ago I asked for some advise on what to do with an egg that my under aged budgie Kiwi mated with with her brother and laid an egg. One thing that concerns me is why are they mating when there under age?

I separated the brother and its been probably a week and just a day ago I saw her poop and its was huge and she strained really bad I was just like no! please not again. then yesterday I noticed the egg but she was interested in it this time, where as last time she was afraid of it then last night I checked in on her and she was sat on it in the corner of the cage, the newspaper chewed up and she's made some sort of ground next.

There's also my worry of her not eating because of sitting on the egg. what should I do?

Also her sister Coco will she be okay getting around, will Kiwi be protective?

The one that I assumed did is a recessive pied but I was told it was a girl at birth I was convinced then it was definitely a boy and now it looks female definitely female.

One thing that concerns me is why are they mating when there under age? Budgies indulge in recreational budgie bonking....mating isnt exactly making babies unless they think there is a good place to have them.....they also do not recognise the relationship they once had with a sibling.

Remove the newspaper and anything else she will be able to nest with or in.

Please post pictures of the birds ceres so we can identify who is male and who is female.

Please help!!

She laid another egg!!!

To stop her laying eggs you need to put her in different cage and reduce her daylight hours by covering the cage a couple of hours before dark and then uncovering it a couple of hours after dawn. Hen budgies do not need to have mated to produce eggs so the fact that she has laid eggs does not necessarily mean that the other bird is male

i agree with neville,

She also needs a cage with a grill on the bottom so there is no where to "nest".

also give her seed in a small dish that she cant sit in.

Change her entire location and make her feel a bit uncomfortable so she cant settle anywhere and lay. This needs to be broken before it turns into a major egg laying issue. Make sure she has plenty of vitamins, protein and calcium in her diet, as while she is laying, her young body is being sapped of all its nutrients.

no flash, isn't it strange?

it looks like that naturally and it used to have a bright pink beak so whats up?

Looks like a hen to me too, but the last photo looks like a cock

First, second and third pictures definitly look like hen.

4th picture looks like a cock.

well looking at the recent photos looks like a hen - but if i saw that last one alone I would agree with Pearce and that the bird is a cock.

Maybe take some more recent photos of him/her, in better light perhaps???

I've found out today it was Coco a cinnamon hen well what I thought was a hen but I saw her/him mate properly with Kiwi the one who's laying oall the eggs.

Can two of the same sex budgies mate?

but then why is she laying eggs?

I know that hens can just lay eggs but she's so young

I've put Kiwi in her own cage now untill I solve this.

Mating is not proof of gender. Budgies are not fussy who they mate with, male or female. Your young hen is laying eggs for one of two reasons.

1) she has somewhere that she feels comfortable enough to nest in.

2) she has a reproductive issue and needs to see an avian vet.
