Posted February 20, 200916 yr Hey everyone, Got a question for you, I have 3 budgies but my green boy hercules is the most social and noisiest by far. He seems to like doing this high pitch squawking noise alot? It drives me insane after a while because its so loud and high pitched. Is that what budgies just like to do? He has 2 other brothers and has plenty of toys so I dont think hes bored? The other boys are quite tame compared to him.
February 20, 200916 yr Any kind of persistent squawking (not chirping) needs to be viewed as a symptom of stress or illness. He may be really uncomfortable in his environment and need a change, or there may be something medical that is causing him pain and discomfort. I would say get him to an avian vet and have him checked over.
February 20, 200916 yr Author He does it mainly when hes been calling out to other birds and when he can hear me inside the house doing stuff. He doesnt do it all the time. He chirps alot and bobs his head so its not a health issue I believe. Its hard to describle the noise. Maybe I could post a link of a bird I saw on youtube doing the same noise? The noise im talking about is about 44seconds into the video.
February 20, 200916 yr The link you posted of the budgie screeching is quite normal behaviour. As you said, budgies are very social birds. Each budgie will react to sounds or birds chirping from outside differently. Some budgies being more vocal than others.
February 20, 200916 yr What he is doing is calling out to either you or his brothers if his brothers are there then most likely you. Undesirable behavior and it can get worse the best thing you can do is ignore it or if it is really bad cover the cage and then uncover once he has calmed down. Sometimes I have to do that with Merlin but he isn't too bad.
February 20, 200916 yr If you haven't read it, there's a pinned topic that might help in the budgie behavior section: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=12931 It doesn't talk a lot about how to solve this problem, but at least might give you some clues about where it came from, and other birds with similar issues.
