February 23, 200916 yr I would feel a lot more comfortable seeing a photo. Please ivermectin for budgies is not something here that can be got anywhere other than a vet.
March 9, 200916 yr Author I received the Scatt yesterday and applied it to Kiwi and Kazi. How much exactly is a drop anyway-1/4ml, 1/2ml???? This is what I read in one of the posts---"one drop" is roughly 0.05 ml - in other words there are 20 drops in a ml---Is that right?Kazi has been separated from Kiwi for a couple of months now because I was afraid he would get scaly face/feet also. Now that I started the treatment, how long should I wait to put them back together again? I will have to retreat again in 21 days. Also Do I wash their cages now or after the final treatment, and what household product can I use? Vinegar, javex....? Thank you.
March 9, 200916 yr They dont need to be apart...you have treated them both. The scaly face mites wont be in your cage...they stay on the host budgie. Its other kinds of mites that get into perches etc. There is a lot of misleading info out there about scaly frace mites.
March 9, 200916 yr Author Thanks Kaz. That makes me feel better because tonight I put them together again. I wanted to clean the 2 cages and I didn't have an extra cage. You're right, there are a lot of conflicting info out there. A breeder that I know told me not to put them together until I was 110% sure she was cured. Also to clean the cage now and after the final treatment.I'm going to try and take a picture of her again tomorrow. It is very hard as she's afraid of the camera.
March 9, 200916 yr Best one to use in Aus is Ivomec Pour-On for cattle. Bayer make one too I think called Baymec. Eprinex Pour-On for cattle is also okay. One drop on the back of the neck. Do not use the oral sheep, cattle or horse products as they don't have the right solvents/surfactants etc to help the product tranfer through the feathers. The best way to go about Ivomec purchase is to buy the 500mL bottle (actually might be 250mL) and share it between a few different people who have birds. Make sure if you decant into another container that you write on the bottle what it is and it's expiry date etc, and then store the Ivomec away from light as light will destroy the effectivity of the product. Forgot to add that rural merchandise stores like Elders, Landmark, CRT, Farmworks etc are the best places to find this product. You might need to order in the smaller bottle if the store normally deals with large cattle herds they might have to get the small size in for you.Do you know what the potency is? For example .1% or .8% per ml or litre? Thank you.Today, someone gave me a little of something that's called a drench for chickens that's .8%/ml, but I'm afraid to use it as I don't know what it will do. The man said that he soaks his chicken's feet in it and the feet come back like new. He suggested I do the same with the budgie.Just bought some from our local CRT agent, Noromectin Pour-On for Cattle (generic Ivermecting brand exactly the same as Ivomec). 5mg/mL Ivermectin, I awlays ask for solvent based as there are some water based Pour-Ons out there and (my opinion only) I don't feel they get through the feathers quite as well.Have been using this type of pour-on for 6 years now and am very pleased with the results, NO scaley face at all, feather mites very rarely, worms your birds as well so you don't a seperate oral worming preparation.I would feel a lot more comfortable seeing a photo. Please ivermectin for budgies is not something here that can be got anywhere other than a vet.Elders, Landmark, CRT agents and other independant rural stores (NRI, AAIR etc) supply Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle (or a generic brand of the same active). In 250mL, 1L, 5L and 20L but the 250mL is more than enough
March 10, 200916 yr Author Kaz, you seem to be very sure of your information on scaly mites. Can you educate me a little, because I have heard so much contradicting information? Thank you.
March 10, 200916 yr Kaz, you seem to be very sure of your information on scaly mites. Can you educate me a little, because I have heard so much contradicting information? Thank you. I treat as I find in the aviary...if I see one with scaly face I treat it with spot on. I dont scrub down the aviary at all and I dont remove or isolate the one affected. They all carry it in a dormant form....it pops up here and there, but I dont have it in the aviary often. Stress sometimes brings it out. A pair I once had breeding developed scaly face amidst raising chicks....I treated the parents. The chicks didnt catch it ( hence it isnt terribly contagious ).......one of those chicks 2 years down the track got scaly face. Thats it. Some people get all the different mite conditions mixed up, or go off bad information.
March 10, 200916 yr Author Thanks again Kaz. Up til now I was fearful of having an epidemic on my hands, because of the things I was told. I gave the pot on to both on Friday. Kiwi seems to be scratching still, but I know it's take some time.

Thanks for all your help.
