Posted February 5, 200916 yr I thoroughly recommend to everyone to invest in good quality seed. Supermarket seed is just not up to standard. Pet shops and Stock Feed stores sell premium budgie and breeder budgie mixes, these I recommend. Brands to look for (in Australia) are Triangle, Golden Cob and Golden Fields. Even if you only have a few budgies it pays to buy a 20kg bag and store it safely in an empty plastic container, such as a bin or box you can pick up from Red Dot or your local Hardware store. Anyone have any recommendations in the States? I've been trying different seed blends, all marketed for budgies, and they still currently throw out more than they eat. Thanks!
February 18, 200916 yr Canary seed (not mix) or finch mix are good ones. There are a lot of seed companies that give useless seed in their mix to increase the weight. most finch mixes or pure canary seed will be eaten by budgies. Also purchase white millet and Japanese millet to add to the canary seeds. In the winter you can add hulled oats and the odd sunflower seed. Because you only have 2 budgies you should be able to find a fodder store (that sells stock feed) and they should have the different seeds in large drums that you can purchase by weight... Only get enough to use within a month or so, keep it too long and you risk getting mould, rodents or moths getting to it.
February 20, 200916 yr I currently give my budgies Volkman Science seed, I have ordered it from here online here. Shipping is expensive for me but that is probably because I am on the other side of the country. Being closer, you may not have that issue. I have bought quality seeds from other places also, but I'm not on my computer now (with all the good links on it!) so don't have the links handy.
