Violet Pairing And Their Babies!

Featured Replies

Posted

My violet spangle cinnamon hen and her violet cinnamon recessive pied cock have finally had their first clutch of babies. This was a very anticipated event as I have had the hen for about a year now, waiting for her to mature. And of course when I found her a beautiful cock last June, the wait was even more exciting.

6 eggs were laid, and 5 were fertile and hatched. The first baby was born on 26/1/09 the day before the big heat wave in Victoria. I brought the breeding cage inside into the laundry on that day, hoping that the hen would stay on the eggs as there was already one baby. Fortunately she did. They experienced very nice airconditioned comfort inside while the other budgies (in the aviary) swelted.

The last egg hatched this Saturday just gone. The bushfires were stressing us all, including Generic Blue who was isolated from her family for the day, but we were lucky to actually watch and assist with the hatching. It was a positive spin on a horrible day, and gave us a "pick me up" that we needed.

Cant wait to see them fully feathered! Nice job :)

I can't wait to see them feather up and what you get in terms of mutations both parents are very pretty.

Looking good Kazzy, can't to see them feather up more too

How's the little one you got from me? is she doing well? ;)

Interesting Pairing..

All the chicks are Split to Recessive pied.

25% will be Double Factor Violets.

You can work out where the violet factor is sitting on which dark factor if you work out the outcome.

I think Daz means 50% double factor VIOLETS not double factor spangles.

That sounds great. The more visual violets the better! ;)

At this stage it looks like chick #1 is normal winged opaline, and showing promising signs of violet. Chick #2 and #3 is spangle, #4 looks like normal wing, and too early to tell with #5. Hope to have updated pictures soon.

Dad is feeding the hen all the time, he has turned out to be a great father GB! And Mum now very happy when I clean box out every day. The first baby is also very inquisitive, it doesn't fret when being handled, it will be a good tamed one when it gets older.

Nice clutch and looks like they made through tough weather so signs are that they will be a good group of healthy babies.

Brilliant pictures and candidates for budgie of the month competition

They all started with red eyes because both parents are cinnamon. After about 1.5 weeks of age they go dark like normal.

They all appear to be opaline, which means that the cock is split for opaline.

You should enter this one into budgie of the month. I love violets. Its funny how if you put babies on your shirt or a blanket, they will always try find a spot to snuggle into.

Hot chicks! How many days between them hatching? They seem to develop so fast...

Thanks! The hatch dates are: 26/1/09, 29/1/09, 1/2/09, 4/2/09 & 7/2/09. So the age difference between to eldest to youngest is 12 days. They do develop fast! I have never taken so many pictures of babies at this age... it has been great for my own reference to document how fast they grow.

chicks develope faster in the warmer weather

just some usless info their for you all
