Poorly Budgie

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm a new mom of two baby budgies. Butter is yellow/green and Sky is blue. I'm worried about butter who is the smaller bird. He seems to be breathing heavy and not eating unless i hold the millet up to him and his bottom is dirty. He seems farless alert than Sky. The only positive thing about Butter is that he has chirped and Sky has stayed silent.

Can anyone give me any advice, please.

A very worried new mom.

Yes, I suggest these things.

1. Call an avian vet and get your bird seen

2. Separate them, so the sick one is away from the healthy one they will probably call to each other

3. Keep the sick on in a room that you can warm up to at least 75F or keep the cage covered and warmed

We are not avian vet or professionials so calling a vet today ASAP is best.

The dirty bottom is a sure sugn of either illness or not eating. Needs to be acted upon very quickly.

I agree. He is sick/stressed/not eating... he needs to be separated as already stated, and a warm lamp of 25 to 40 watts shinning on him will help too. He needs to see an avian vet as soon as you can.

I'm happy to say I think Butter is feeling a little better. I've moved them to somewhere warmer and we've just left them to settledown. He is now eating on his own and he seems more perky. :)

I'm still watching his breathing, it has slowed alot so hopefully it was just all the stress of a new home. He's pooing as well now which seems normal and he's been preening today, so fingers crossed he's gonna be okay but if im worried tomorrow he'll be off to the vets.

Thank you for your advice, it's lovely to have somewhere to come and get help.

P.S I keep calling Butter a he when he maybe a she! I'm not sure yet.

Sky is a boy he's got blue above his beak.
