Where Can I Find Scatt?

Featured Replies

Is it still possible to buy Vetafarm SCATT in Australia? I am part of the Vetaclub, but i have no idea where to find the stuff. :) Could anyone please point me in the right direction?

I was given a little budgie that has pretty bad scaly face. I'll be picking him up this Sunday and I'd like to get him onto treatment ASAP.

Thank you! :(

You'd be better off using Ivermectin. One drop on the back of the neck and it's done (I think you can re-treat in 2 weeks if needed) SOME vets sell it but some require a visit first. Where about in Australia are you? A local budgie club or a member from here might be able to help you out with some.

Scatt isnt sold in Australia. We use spot on ivermectin. My avian vet sells it over the counter but other vets require a vet consult and usually end up persuading you to use other things.

Thank you. :raincloud: What is the difference between SCATT and Ivermectin? I read on a different forum (some sort of British bird forum) that SCATT is recommended first and if that can't be found, Ivermectin is second best.

So much conflicting information out there! :)

I am on the Gold Coast. My avian vet does not sell it and only administers it himself. For this he keeps the budgie for a week. That ends up costing a lot. :(

Since I dont have access to Scatt, I have no idea what the difference is. I use spot on ivermectin. Easily applied one drop to the back of the neck, once only...no need to catch and treat further. Some vets can be silly in their endeavours to charge us more money than we need. No need to keep any budgie for a week. Using the ivermectin spot on I have NEVER had to treat more than once on the bird.

I was charged a whole week's worth of pay just for the scaly mite treatment from the vet! What a waste if I could have treated it myself.

Right, so where would I be able to find Ivermectin if my vet doesn't sell it? Also, does it need to be diluted or anything?

The one I use is $9 for a small dropper bottle sold over the counter at my avian vets.
