Posted January 27, 200916 yr I bought Confetti from Daz on the weekend and today will be day 3 of having him. But since I bought him home, he hasn't eatten and I am worried he will starve if he won't touch anything in my cage, we have seeds, and veggies for him to choose from but he just dosn't seem to touch it. I understand he may be still adapting to a new home, but he really need to eat something. Is there a way I can coax him to eat? Edited January 27, 200916 yr by KAZ

Millett seed sprigs worked for me last time I had a new budgie that wouldn't eat, it took her about two weeks before she settled.
January 27, 200916 yr Author we bought some Millett seed yesterday, Lemon got stuck into it, but Confetti didn't. Was watching him before he was nibbling abit on some celery, but it wasn't much.
January 27, 200916 yr Teagan Give me a call and I'll come over to see him. One of the advantages of buying from a "caring" and reputable breeder!!

January 27, 200916 yr Well that is figured out :bliss:, good luck Daz. Question though did you buy Lemon and Confetti together? If not, I assume Confetti is in quarantine, see if you can blow the seeds off the food if you can then he is eating but the empty seeds husks are on top.

I bought Lemon 3 or so months ago from a pet store. So Confetti is in quarenteen for the time being. I would blow the husks off if there were any
January 27, 200916 yr New birds do this sometimes. Just make sure the seed is at perch level and positioned right next to the spot they are sitting so its easy for them to take a nibble if they are feeling timid. Keep an eye on her poops. if they are still looking normal, then she is eating sneakily without you knowing.

Well mum had put some celeri, a peice of apple and a bean in there for him to eat and he has eatten them thank god lol, just looks like he hasnt touched his seed.
January 28, 200916 yr Fineslice some dark leaf vegies, corn kernels, grate carrot, add some budgie seed...mix up and leave on flat tray at ground level.
January 28, 200916 yr Sounds like he is starting to settle but as Kaz said take it one step at a time. Any problems call me. I'll be home tomorrow working on nest boxes and show cages.
February 2, 200916 yr Author Well Confetti has been eatting alot more now, along with alot of veggies and the seed Daz had brought around for me for him to eat xD Thank you :cake:
February 2, 200916 yr Thats good to hear.. If you go to Brendale Produce, you can get good budgie seed. It will be cheaper in the long run. A lot of the cheaper seed mixes you buy from the Supermarkets can carry a lot of "filler' seed that the birds don't eat. You are then buying seed to throw out.

I thoroughly recommend to everyone to invest in good quality seed. Supermarket seed is just not up to standard. Pet shops and Stock Feed stores sell premium budgie and breeder budgie mixes, these I recommend. Brands to look for (in Australia) are Triangle, Golden Cob and Golden Fields. Even if you only have a few budgies it pays to buy a 20kg bag and store it safely in an empty plastic container, such as a bin or box you can pick up from Red Dot or your local Hardware store.
