Posted January 21, 200916 yr This is one of the rescue budgies, she is the mother of 4 chicks. I am not sure what happened to her cere as she was like this when I got her 11 days ago. She lived in an aviary with 25 other males and females in a colony breeding situation and maybe got this injury from a fight protecting her young I thought? If you have any ideas or advice it would be appreciated. This is another hen that has a cere like this but it has healed. Gosh I only just realised looking at this closely that she also has some toes missing poor thing!
January 21, 200916 yr Old injuries and you can do nothing about them now. The hazards of fighting for nestboxes in colony breeding I would say.

January 21, 200916 yr actually i have a hen that looks like that and she was also a rescue. mine is the result not of fighting in a colony breeding situation, but after she was treated for mites and/or scaley face, part of her cere fell off as did part of her toes. She is fine and will live happily, but she looks similar.
