Budgie Health Problem

Featured Replies

Posted

I just been given a budgie, its only young but has all its feathers.

I think there is something wrong with it because it can't fly or get

to any perches, it just stays on the bottom of the cage.

It sleeps majority of the time with its legs sticking out either

side of its body. It also lays on its back with its legs in the

air and always has its head to one side.

Does anyone have any information please.

Welcome :(

your budgie doesnt sound normal at all. it actually sounds like your baby budgie has splayed legs B)

have you any photos you can post??

I agree with Liv..........sounds like splayed legs....fixed easily if caught early enough when a tiny baby. Hope it wasnt sold to you in this condition :hap:

Its fixable when discovered in the nestbox at around 10 days to 2 weeks of age. After that its bones set. Too late to fix now without major vet costs. You will have to work out a disabled bird cage and see if you can help it have a better life. Platforms and wide perches not normal perches etc.

First of all  welcome to the forums. hope you find it very informative. I agree with the others, it sounds as though it has splayed legs... did the person that gave it tell you how old it was?

my mothers father gave it to me about a week after buying it because it couldnt move around in his aviary.

i dont have any perches in its cage. Sometimes i think its dead because it looks so bad.

Im taking it to the vet on friday.
