Posted January 18, 200916 yr We bought a new budgie today, as our female's (Poppy) male companion died a couple weeks ago, and she's been lonely (the new bird is quarantined for now of course). But it's doing this weird thing that Poppy used to do as well when she first moved in. Every night, she would go to one of the top corners of the cage and hang off the side wall with both feet and her beak. Never during the day, but every night for about a week after I got them, and would refuse to move and not react to anything outside the cage (such as me walking past, which was normally very scary). I just noticed the new budgie doing the same thing. Is this some sort of budgie speak that I should know of?
January 18, 200916 yr Laila and Sam do it. I've had them for about a year and a half now. And my two new hens Ingrid and Peach do it as well.. I think it's just like how horses sleep standing up.. They are comfortable like that..
January 18, 200916 yr some budgies are just like that, it is ironic that she is doing the same thing the other one is
January 18, 200916 yr Some of my budgies do that too. I had a pair in a cage inside for a while, and the cock bird would sleep like this all the time. My husband just recently went outside late in the night and reported back to me the next day that he noticed "all" the budgies attached to the wire of the aviary. I wish he had woken me and told me. I would have loved to have seen 20 budgies all sleeping this way!!!
January 19, 200916 yr Author Hmm, fascinating. Well good to know it seems like a normal thing to do:)
January 19, 200916 yr Perfectly Normal .... Budgie will find a place to sleep and mine do the same as you some off the cage and some sleep on the highest perch .... It's perfectly Normal sorry for your loss but congrats son the new one
January 19, 200916 yr Author Thanks:) It really doesn't look comfortable at all, but I guess their idea of a comfy place to sleep is different from mine:)
