Vitamin B12 Injection.

I have been feeling very tired, amongst other symptoms. I have been to the doctors and had some blood test done. My levels of some vitamins etc... are a little low, but mainly it's my vitamin B12. I think the levels are mean to be between 200 and 600 picogram/milliliter... and mine was 111. I have had to have another blood test to see if it's just dietary, if something in my body is stopping me absorbing it, or something else. I've been reading up on it and a lot of my symptoms seem to make sense. I have to have a Vitamin B12 injection tomorrow. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had them, how quick do you notice any changes, and is it long lasting. I think you get them monthly to get your levels up, and then three monthly (if i have a problem absorbing it). Any advice is greatly appreciated... :D

My mum, grandpa and two aunties have one injection a month to 6 weeks and my mum notices the change the next day (haven't asked the rest. There is a history in my family of vitamin b 12 not absorbing as it does in regular people. The injection hardly hurts and will make you feel sooooooo much better! Good luck B)

Thanks Trish. Fingers crossed. I'm not fussed about the injection, more so about everything else. It's nice to know I should notice changes soonish.

b vitimins are awesome!! - they reduce stress, depression and anxiety, increase brain function and increase energy - ENJOY :)

My grandparents used to caretake for a millionairess and she has them regularly as she was 85 and it was like her fountain of youth she used to say!

I have monthly B12 injections for Pernicious Anemia ( auto-immune disorder that prevents absorption). I've had them for over 8 years, and yes they help! I was pregnant when diagnosed, and feeling like I was going to die I was so tired, but because I have a thyroid problem, the doctor ignored the new symptoms - and my gut feeling! Luckily my blood test was mixed up with my daughters, so I got an urgent call from her Paediatrician and started injections immediately. Just as well too, as my son (I was pregnant with at the time) was unharmed.

As I said, I felt really awful before the injections started, then three days later I hopped on a bike with two flat tyres and went for the first ride in 5 years! You should definately feel the difference if you're low :) ! Just make sure you relax your arm before the needle goes in, it can hurt more if you're tense. DEFINATELY WORTH IT THOUGH!

Hi 2budgies, thats what my family has, just couldn't remember the right terminology!

I forgot to mention that Folic Acid masks Pernicious Anemia, so you might need to check with your doctor if you take it whether you should continue or not. It's no big deal, just makes it harder to see if the B12 deficiency is dietary or Pernicious Anemia. Good luck with the "GO-GO juice"!

It can also be called Megaloblastic Anemia I think - because if untreated the blood sells get bigger and more sticky. There's plenty of good info online :) .

Thanks so much!!! It's great to hear from others. I don't take folic acid, but it's levels are a little low, as is my vitamin D... but iron was surprisingly okay? She's doing more tests to see if it is Pernicious Anemia... so I guess time will tell. Along with feeling very tired, I've been unable to eat much at all.. which doesn't help when I need certain vitamins etc..., also issues with sleeping, memory, concentration... I could go on... It sounds like this could be a good thing for me.

Vitamin D is from the sun also isn't it? Some people also have trouble absorbing this also. If you are absorbing it o.k. then a few minutes every now and then in the sunlight will top you up.

I know what you're describing! My doctor recently asked me to try waiting for three months without an injection so that he could check some other problems I've been having. I felt very tired, teary, tingling fingers and toes, leg cramps, no appetite, fuzzy brain, pale purple colouring, unsteady gait and eventually lost bowel control. I got my needle just before Christmas, and swear I will never let anyone make me wait that long again! A few days after I've had the needle, I'm SO much better! Hmmm...I'm due for it again..... :)
