January 16, 200916 yr hmmm is that normal? Not uncommon in Show budgies, it's called buff feather. Edited January 17, 200916 yr by Neat
January 16, 200916 yr is it concidered a good quality or bad? Length of feather is desirable. Maybe some if the other show breeders can talk more knowledgeably on this subject. I'm only starting to get interested in my birds' feather quality. What I know is that you shouldn't put 2 buff feathered birds together but it is desirable to put a medium feathered bird to it.
January 16, 200916 yr Generally that problem is found in birds that have suffered with PBFD. The feather is affected part way through the growing period and the rachis has constricted effectivly stopping any blood flow to the developing feather. Some birds however having a slight dose of PBFD manage to come through with the rest of the feather appearing normal but with what looks like another attached, but it is all the same feather. You probably find when the bird moults it will be quite normal.
January 17, 200916 yr WOW .... RIP thanks for that info it is very interesting ..... Gotta love the scruffy thing though LOL
January 17, 200916 yr so im confussed now is it normal or not i would think not but i know nothing really
January 19, 200916 yr His down feathers just didn't moult out. They are attached to the very tips of the new plumage. If I trimmed off the baby down feathers he would look normal. He is otherwise quite healthy. It isn't PBFD or french moult or he would likely be bald, flightless, unhealthy or dead. It is just something interesting that I hadn't seen before.
January 19, 200916 yr I agree it is interesting. :sadsorry: I would be very interested to see if its a genetic thing? I wonder if its children will have the same look...
January 19, 200916 yr So next Moult he will go back to looking normal? Sort of like a teenager in their "long hair rebbel stage" I think it looks cute but I to would be intrested if it ended up being something that he passed onto the chicks.
