4 quaker parrots! okay so pippi and I are getting them but still excited much.

It was something we had thought about doing and then we just decided to do it and got offered two pairs for next to nothing ($500 for 4 birds) we have to travel to two different places this weekend so it's going to be a long weekend. We have to move all the Budgies out of Pippi's avairy into quarantine at my house then set up his avairy and area for the new arrivals.

We are getting a blue pair and a grenn pair split for blue. Both pairs are young and no related so we hope to make a third pair later down the track.

*does a happy dance*

does the happy dance look like this :D :happy-dancing: ??? Congrats on the quacker parrots, they are great looking birds. A shop near me get them in fairly regularly... nice. not cheap though :D

I know, most places around here sell them from $300 - $450 a bird so finding 4 for $500 I thought was a good deal. Granted we have to travel out for them. Getting green avairy stock is normally the $200 mark but Blue proven pairs can still be around $300 a bird however this guy who has the Blue stock wants out of birds fast and is a good two hours from Melbourne so that is why he is selling them cheap, a good find as far as I can tell.

Lucky you, Ive wanted one of those but no..no..no not in WA

I'm with you Pie. I have always wanted quakers But our law forbids it here. They worry about them getting out. :P Bit if a joke really when you consider how many lorrikeets are flying round the place and have spread further afield. I have on many occasion seen ringneck parrots perched in the big gum tree back of my place.

very cool, look forward to pictures for sure :P

I find it really strange that you can have them in some states and not in others. I know someone on another board who put in a 15 page submission to the WA government to be able to keep her quaker after her work relocated her from Melbourne to Perth (I think it was Perth, somewhere in WA) she had had him for 15 years and did not want to give him up, after they said she could not bring him she quit her job as they said she had to relocate just so she could keep her parrot, now that is what I call true pet ownership!

Will post pictures but it might take a few days as they will be at Pippi's house and we are picking up the second pair at 5pm so it will be late when we get them home. I range fom freaking out about the whole thing to being excited.

thats a great price for 4 birds no matter how far you have to go to get them , i look forward to some pics . good score

That's great look forward to seeing some pics :D

okay so i was going to get my quakers today. So Pippi and I set off and I arrive at his house at 9am with a trailer to collect all his Budgies and boxes etc to come to my house. We get that all set up and then head out to get the first pair.

Now in my defense, i have only every seen a few REALLY fat pet quakers and pictures and we get there and they are these little things. The guy is more of a breed for money then a breed for the love of it. I really wanted to say no I would not take them but I felt cornered and sort of in rescue mode so we came home with a green pair. The female is missing a few toes but she can perch really well and has breed in the past. Not 100% happy about the situation but okay with it. They also need fattening up as he feed them on a diet of sunflower seeds and well... that was about it!

So we get them settled and head off to whoop whoop for the next pair. Well we get down there (a lot longer the the 1hr30min drive whereis promised me) and these birds are in great condition, they even talk and come up and talk to you through the cage. he had four pairs and was really good about which ones he thought we should take, what they are getting food wise, when they went down last and how many eggs they had. the birds looked 100 times better then the first place so we picked the blue pair, I really wanted one of the blue and green pairs but as I had bought the other pair that morning we did not have enough money on us nor do we really have the room.

However he did have a pair of green cheeks for sale and guess what... I bought them *ducks flying objects* we did not have enough for them either but he said that we could post him the money tomorrow so going to do that first thing.

He also has my dream cage for Elmo and only wants $150 for it, the nearest I have been able to find is $495! So I think I am going to call him and ask him to hold the cage for me for two weeks and I will go get it. I have also listed the first pair that I bought on petlink and hope I don't lose to much money on them and I am going to buy the other pair he has if he will also hold them for me.

Oh and the other thing is that I got to talk to a pair of gang gangs up close today! WOW what great birds, a lot smaller then I thought they would be but still really nice.

Anyway now I have to go research green cheeks to make sure I have everything for them.
