January 20, 200916 yr Author Sunday night I started all birds on the doxy treatment, this includes my chicks that are still in the kindie cage and my retirement villagers. I have been amazed at the rate the treated water has been consumed- last night I gave each aviary 200mls and then had to replenish 3 hours later as the bottles were empty. Another interesting development is that the noise level has increased exponentially and I can see evidence that in the 'suspect' aviary they are tucking into their seed with much more vigor. It's early days yet but the signs look promising.
January 24, 200916 yr when i said move them on i was not meaning to other breeders i ment as pets i think it is great you are so comited to your birds i myself if i got a life threatning ilness in my aviry that could not be cuered as thats what i thought you ment i would slowly have all birds tested and the ones who were ill anethasised as not to spread it to other birds ingeneral wild or aviry if it was cureable of course i would persist with treatment and reacese as you are doing i wish you the best i asumed they were always going to get reinfected always leaving your healthy stock at risk if that was the case their would be no garentee which of your birds were viris free their for selling birds could infect others stock latter when the viris is dormant then flears up in what ever time it feels like their for breeding for retail would be wrong in my veiw not unless you could be sure all your birds had a healthy bill of health garenteed which with out getting each bird tested before selling it would and this is only by sounds of it be a risk to the buyer but you seem to know exactly what your doing and looking at things you seem very responsable so all my best and good luck mate
January 24, 200916 yr i agree with the doxy treatment renee. I think it is a good thing you are doing. I have seen Renee's setup, and there is no reason why birds in her main aviary are getting sick. Good luck with the treatment program and I hope it all works out for you Renee.

February 8, 200916 yr Just a quick question Renee , The avairy in question , does it get dusty often , or does the dust build up quicker then the other avaires?
February 8, 200916 yr Author Just a quick question Renee , The avairy in question , does it get dusty often , or does the dust build up quicker then the other avaires? No, Lochlan, there's no dust build up that I have observed. It's an open design so feather dust and the like blows away. The issue I have a problem with was described by Teagan in another post: Build up of dried poo around the vent and loss of appetite. In her post the vet diagnosed a 'crop issue'. This would make sense as an affected bird I took to the vet, while there was no diagnosis offered, Lincospectrum was used as treatment. I have since treated a young bird (from another aviary) that was similarly affected: 48hs hospital cage and then 4 days in a separate cage with crop feeding twice daily a mixture of ER formula and Lincospectrum. Throughout I didn't see any evidence that it was eating at all but I've popped him back into the aviary and he seems to be doing okay so far. Edited February 8, 200916 yr by renee
