Posted January 7, 200916 yr Few random pics- it started off this morning as me trying to work out the parents of 2 babies. They had to be put together in the same nest before ringing and I hoped to be able to tell them apart at fledging. Well I might have...maybe... well I'm running with it anyway Lol :bluebudgie: They are related either way and both cocks so not a huge stress. The only difference I could see is one has some lovely long feathered spots the other has my 'normal' baby type spots. So am going with the different spot chick to be from some new blood I added. There are 7 (I think) in the baby cage atm about 8 or 9 wks (must check) and as usual, greys and greygreens. This was taken a few weeks ago but shows some of the others Couple starting their first moult in the aviary this fella has some filling out to do in the next few months. Another Black ring- although he is from the last time black rings were used, getting scruffy but still going great. I desperately need some more light greens to pop up- this fella is the brother to the bird in my avatar, never used him. He is also a very long big bird (not that you can tell from pics) Got 4 more light greens coming through but they wont make the grade. They are from a lutino cock and a nice hen- I'm yet to get anything decent from him so he maybe retiring to a friends aviary with another lute hen. Terrible photos Lol (mid-poo?? he didnt look like his when I pushed the button but too lazy to get another Split rec pied (from mum- she is split also) and last but not least my little ugly duckling- I am still waiting for my swan. Both his parents are dead due to an unfortunate accident just as they were starting to produce some rippers (which were killed in a foster nest ) so he means a bit to me even if he doesnt quite make the grade his parents and siblings did argh photobucket has nearly driven me mad trying to get the pics and post up today Edited January 7, 200916 yr by the pie
January 7, 200916 yr Beautiful birds Pie :bluebudgie: Great photos and quite a few birds you have that I would be proud to own
January 7, 200916 yr Author thanks Liz -and Kaz I know the standard of some of your birds and it makes me feel good. The little chick in the top pics has improved in the last week so I'm looking forward to the next 6 months. The light greens will be rehomed shortly but the rest are looking good so far- the oldest batch would be about 6 months now and there are some hens (and cocks) that will be getting used next year they have moulted through well and while not show stoppers they are equal to the birds I'm already running. I have a few nice cocks but their numbers are increasing and there are only so many cock birds of the same colour and breeding I can use. I really cant wait for the next few months to go by so I can put some more down I havent used yet- it has gotten way too warm, I have 2 pair down still with eggs/newly hatched I am going to have to baby this next month or 2. I really shouldnt have put them down but couldnt help myself as the weather was still good- I knew it would be hot by the time they hatched though. I have a notepad in the aviary I am writing pairing options down for next run though. I would like to get some of my Dom pieds and spangles down next.
January 7, 200916 yr aaawwwwww! I think your "ugly duckling" is incredibly gorgeous anyway..sweet lil thing
January 7, 200916 yr You have some nice birds Pie and your babies are looking really good, they should molt into something really great, the pied could blossom, I have a dark green cock about 5 months old but Greg told me to cull him 2 months ago and I said no but guess what he has molted into something quite special his bib has grown to be very deep etc my meaning is you would never think it was the same bird. PLUS some young are late bloomers especially the line I carry here some don't come into their own till sometimes 12-18months old.
