Posted January 3, 200916 yr I have seached the FAQs and know when a budgie is sexually mature and emotionally mature, but at what age does a budgie stop physically growing. I read in the bush budgie FAQ that they get to be about 7 inches but what length do pet budgies get and what length do show budgies get? The reason I'm asking is Ernie seems to be getting bigger than any of our previous pets so I was wondering if he is following after his pet type father or his show type mother. Edited January 3, 200916 yr by Hills
January 3, 200916 yr I can't find it, but I did come across this thread http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=13911 it says the size of a full grown show budgie, so I guess if your bird was a lot smaller it would take after its pet type parent, if it was not much smaller it would be a mix, and if it was around the same size it would be like its show type... sorry i couldn't help any better. I did try looking for it!
January 3, 200916 yr You can not put an age on animals only a guide. Maturity for a cock birds is older than a hen. In my mind it is 12months. a Hen is 10 months. Experience will indicate if it should be older or younger.
January 3, 200916 yr Author Thanks all. From the thread Jimmy found by Daz (thanks Jimmy, good info in there  ) they should measure 8.5 inches. Ernie is now still under 3 months and already is over 8 inches from head to tail (as good as I can measure before he tries to eat the tape measure anyway  ), so I guess that means he's going to be a big lad.
