August 15, 201015 yr Author Shed goes up today and all cages are in it. I can't wait much longer Neither can we  are you going to tile your floor Dave ? Well the shed construction was going well and then the clouds came and we had a massive downpour. This put an end to my shed building adventures for today. Tune in next week to find out if the shed EVER gets finished - I am so FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do nto plan on tiling at the moment Kaz. Maybe something to consider doing over summer when the birds are not down breeding.
August 20, 201015 yr Croos my fingers for you Dave that it doesn't rain  , don't get photo essay of your birdroom, step by step :rip:
August 20, 201015 yr I don't know where you live Dave, but a word of warning, Years ago I had a similar shed. I caught up my show team to prepare for the March Diploma shows and went off to work. It turned out to be a really hot day and several birds died under the sky light as it magnifies heat. I eventually rigged up a blind which I closed across the sky light in summer. Just a word of warning but the shed looks good cheers Clearwing
August 20, 201015 yr That is why I am not having a sky light panel, I am lining mine. Dave are you going to line your shed too or do you have a big tree that will keep it cool.
August 20, 201015 yr It has a panel at the front to let extra light in, as well as a skylight on one side. Hey, Dave, having a sky light on the roof like that means that on hot days, the direct sun will really heat up the shed. Do you have a plan for some kind of shade cover to pull over that? On the flip side, it should help keep them toasty on sunny days in the winter. Yes he has a plan for shade cover during summer. Dave and I discussed this before he ordered his new shed  The covering of the skylight has already been discussed and planned out. :rip:
August 20, 201015 yr Author As Kaz has said, the skylight is there mainly for winter and to let light in, but will be covered in summer. I have thought about ways to ensure it does not get too hot, wire doors and the like. I have given this a lot of thought and discussion with others - fear not people, i am prepared.
August 21, 201015 yr Author The shed is almost finished. A few bits of trimming to fix up, doors to put on & the I will move the shed into position. It is massive compared to my old breeding shed but it has been hard work. I will take in the morning. I am very excited about setting it up.

August 22, 201015 yr Is it all done Dave, Up and ready to go? Did your shed come in a package, where you have to put it all together yourself? I ordered mine Friday, it will take a fortnight for it to arrive, I am getting a Steel Chief shed from Bendigo Victoria. It comes with the sides already done, so there are 4 sides and 2 roof pieces I think, door already assembled. So I am hoping it will be easy to put up, a few screws each corner and the roof. Look forward to seeing photos of yours. :fear
August 22, 201015 yr Author Well, it is all done and ready to go. All up it has taken 8 days to assemble. Of these 8 days, we only worked on it for 3 hours the first day, then the rain hit, 6 days later we worked on it for 4 hours, and then 1 1/2 hours today. It is all done, finally. It is a nice looking shed with plenty of room. The height is the best bit - I can stand at any point in there and not hit my head. The skylight is a good idea and necessary to let some light in. Unfortunately due to the overhanging gables and a side fence, it does not sit perfectly on my slab. I have had to improvise a little at the moment and I will further extend my slab in 6-8 weeks, at the earliest. I am beginning to set up breeding cages and there are a pair in here dying to get into somewhere with a nestbox I will take more pics as I set it up more and put the birds in there Edited August 22, 201015 yr by Dave_McMinn
August 22, 201014 yr The looks great Dave, you won't know yourself with all that space . Can't wait for mine to arrive but we haven't even done the cementing yet
August 23, 201014 yr Author It is very roomy inside indeed, however air ciruclation is of course a problem. A whirlybird on the roof may be the answer, or multiple vents may suffice Edited August 23, 201014 yr by Dave_McMinn
August 23, 201014 yr Your new breeding room looks awesome Dave. Bet you can't wait to have it all set up
August 23, 201014 yr I am putting a whirly bird on mine too,Dave plus a bought a sliding window from the demolition place, I think i may put 2 windows in yet because I am not having a sky panel for light like yours so I am guessing mine will be quite dark. But yours looks great, lov eth colour too. mine is only zinc. I had Greg mum here and his step dad before, I ian is his name and he spaents most of his spare time at the tip helping the guy there, well ysterday 4 whiry birds came like new he said, he grabbed 2 for himself and left the other 2 there becaus ehe didn't know I wanted one. Rats. He said someone grabbed the other 2 by the time he left. rats rats rats. And what is even worse he didn't know I was after a shed either and yesterday some guy come in and said he pulled down is shed, a small single garage and wanted to knoe if anyone wanted, Ian and the other said no they didn't know anyone, gosh can't believe it Could of saved me $715.00 dollars, even if he wanted $500 for it, would of being great ... mmm these are the breaks. Oh but good news Gregs mum June has a laundrey sink for me with the cupboard too, that's a start

August 23, 201014 yr Yes I relise this, the one window that I am differently putting in is going on the side where the door is, I am only having one door. so on the side where there is one panel cages will be along there and on the other side of the door there will be 2 panels, well the sink is going there with the window above it and if enough room my trophy cabinet above the window. My walls will 210 and the highest bit will 254cm I think. But I am thinking of a window or a long strip of laserlight along one wall above breeding boxes to let in more light. first I need to get the shed up and then my plans may change who knows Edited August 23, 201014 yr by splat
October 4, 201014 yr Author Splat, These photos below show the latches that I added to keep the doors from blowing closed. I also added a solar light. The panel is outside and the light is inside. The light should last for about 4 hours befor it needs recharging.
