Posted January 2, 200916 yr Sinc everyone else is doing a thread for their new breeding room setups, I thought I should. I have purchased an old aviary/shed that I will use. It's dimensions are 3m x 1.5m x 1.8m. It needs a little bif of work, but that should be fine. Here is where it will be going. I have begun clearing the area. I will move those pavers. They were where the hexagonal aviary once sat. I plan on laying concrete in this entire space.
January 3, 200916 yr yay we are all getting into the breeding spirit good luck dave cant wait to see rezult of all these bird rooms
January 3, 200916 yr Go for it Dav, sounds great, my breeding room is only basic and I am happy with it.
March 9, 200916 yr Author Well, it is 2 months since I started clearing the spot where the shed will go, and my progress has been very poor, to say the least. In my defence, I have had a great holiday, I ahve returned to work, I have given up my time to help family and friends on multiple occasions, and I have taken on more responsibilities at work, to the extent that I am pretty much exhausted these days. So where am i at? The grass has started regrowing in my cleared area. I have set myself a date to get things done. This week is about reclearing the area, making sue the wood goes in that is going to act as my barrier to the cement, and contacting a company to get a quote on the cost, and booking it in. I want to get this going ASAP. I am more committed now. A lot of the special things I have had to do as a Year 7 Coordinator are coming to close, such as camp, visits to primary schools, etc. so I feel I am getting mroe on top of things. Stay tuned to this space, i promise more work than before.
March 9, 200916 yr It is so hard when you are working to get the things done you want to do, hope you can get the breeding room started soon.
March 10, 200916 yr Look forward to the progress pics...it's all very exciting. I, too, will be doing a similar thing when I get my aviary. Nice work Dave!!! :anim_19: :budgiedance:
April 8, 200916 yr Author Update time. There has been little to no work on the breeding room as I seemt o use all my free time helping others. So far, I have spent multiple weekends helping my parents clen out my grandmother's house so it can be sold, so no chance to work on the birdroom there. I have had tree issues as well. I have had an external tree removed last weekend and I am goign to have to get the internal (on property) tree removed within the ensxt few weeks. i am also getting some fences done (soon hopefully, I am fast getting annoyed with this) and so that has slowed me down. I had planned to put some breeding pairs down in the next few days, but if I have to move the aviary now to get this tree removed, then I will need the breeding cages for holding cages whilst this happens. What a nightmare.
April 8, 200916 yr Never mind Dave......the best things take time I am still waiting for my new flights and it has to have been at least a year on the planning list. Ken is on holidays end of April so hoping it will be done then.
April 8, 200916 yr Yes Dave you know the saying " good things come to those who wait" that's if I quoted that right
April 19, 200916 yr Author Well today, I finally finished the prep work for the slab. Tomorrow I am going to call and get the prices for the slab, and then that will probably get started on Friday. The shed then will be assembled next Sunday - hopefully. Rain is predicted all week, so we will see what will happen. I will take some pics as soon as I can.
April 19, 200916 yr I dont know how i missed this tread So exciting!! I look forward to watching your progress

April 19, 200916 yr Author Couple of options for both lighting and ventillation. Lighting - you can add a sky light, use windows or install lighting. I am going to have windows, plus I am thinking of adding a skylight set up. Ventillation - you can add windows higher up to allow air ot flow through, you can install one of these ceiling air vents that spin and let hot air out, some people use air coolers to cool hot breeding rooms, some people have wire screen doors to allow air to flow in. I am lucky as my breeding room is an old aviary, so there are some wire sections already. This will allow some circulation of air and some light, but I will cover part of these with clear plastic to prevent rain. The other day, the wind and the rain meant that unless yoour aviary was enclosed ina box, water was getting in. No problemw ith water getting in, as long as you can make sure that no bird is effected by a wet area after this occurs.
