Is it known for parents to bite the beaks off of their fully feathered young that are still in the nest? I cant find any info on it on the net? Not just in budgies but in all birds such as superb parrots?

 

Does any one know any causes etc?

I have heard about it more often than i'd like to. I haven't experienced it (touch wood), but from memory its to do with the parents wanting to remove the babies to breed again

Actually this generally occurs in a couple of ways.

1. when another bird ( female ) enters the nestbox and attacks the babies....colony breeding.

 

2. When a baby is making "feed me" noises to the mother, she is hormonal and wanting to lay a second clutch. The mother is usually the one who does this as she finds the "feed me" urging a nuisance. At this age the Dads should be the ones feeding the babies and the mother is focussed on a second clutch and purely doesnt want the babies at her.

No No, Not my babies. A lady that came into work has had this happen. Im trying to find info for her.
